William Bernard Gillum

Bill “Pop” Gillum, 91, of Waco, passed away peacefully Monday, October 21, 2019 in Waco. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, at Waco Memorial Park with Brother Jim Daniels officiating.

Bill was born February 6, 1928 in Edora, Arkansas to Terrill and Gertie (Poole) Gillum. He married Winnie Draper, who preceded him in death. Bill later married Betty Fisher on November 17, 1999. Bill was also preceded in death by his son, Daniel Gillum in March of 2019.

He was a member of the Waco Gem and Mineral Club and an avid rock hound! He loved his church and was there whenever the doors were open. Bill was an iron worker and built many of the major buildings in the Central Texas area.

He went on a once in a lift time cruise to Alaska in 2012.

William is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Debby Stewman, Judy Heickman, Neil Lessman and Kaye Draper; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gillum; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

  1. I am so sorry for your loss. I am Terry, Bennies oldest son. I was forwarded this by my sister Diana Gillum Reed. I am sorry or never getting to meet him and other family members. Bennies allowed my step Dad to adopt me so that is why My name is no longer Gillum. Again I am very sorry for your loss.

I knew “Bill”from about age 14.At that time,he was married to Winnie.Bill was a Volunteer,at Quality Care nursing home,where my mother,Sybil Jennings,was activity director.Bikl would drive all the way to Gholsin to get watermelons,then cut them up and serve,all the residents.Then after Winnie passed away,he married Betty,his second love.Few people,Bless more people in a lifetime,than Bill Gillum! I know I will see him one day,probably slicing a piece of watermelon or driving his old tan farm truck,down the streets of Gold.Sureky,Heaven has a special place,for Bill Gillum.
