Walter Leroy Kelly passed away in Waco, Sunday, November 28, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 11:15 AM, Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Tx, with a reception to follow at Rudy’s BBQ, 451 E. Interstate I-20, Arlington, Tx.
Walter was born in Fort Worth on July 11, 1937, to Walter Lee Kelly and Florence Marie Ray.
After serving two tours with the Army in Vietnam, Walter served another tour there as a contractor. He also worked for Bell Helicopter and Lockheed-Martin and was the night manager/auditor for 30 years at The Worthington Hotel in Fort Worth. He had many stories about the celebrity guests who stayed at the Worthington, including Vincent Price, Eddie Fischer, and Linda Evans.
Walter loved to paint with oils, and many friends and family members are the happy owners of his paintings.
He is survived by children, Joann and Kenneth of Fort Worth; brother, RL (Gail) of Waco; sister, Barbara Staley (Pete) of Surprise, AZ; sister, Margie Champion of Azle; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Walter also had a son, Michael, who preceded him in death.
