Tonya LaTrea McDaniel, age 46, of Waco, passed away March 12, 2024.

Visitation: 9AM – 11AM Saturday March 23  at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel.
Memorial Service: 11AM Saturday March 23  at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel.

Tonya attended school both in Waco ISD, Nichols Jr High and Workman Jr High in Arlington. Tonya enjoyed her leadership position with Sanderson Farms as a Quality Control Specialist for the past seven years.

In 2016 Tonya met Derrick McDaniel and they were married six years later. In 2024 they celebrated their second wedding anniversary.

She was very charismatic and well spoken. She was a nurturer and caring person with an infectious smile, thus the nickname “Sunshine” given to her by her husband. Tonya enjoyed experiencing new things, traveling locally and abroad as well as spending time with her husband and family. The love and dedication that she and Derrick shared was a love most people do not get to experience; it has always been cherished. Their shared love for travel kept them cruising the world.

Tonya was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Barnes and Karen Pearl Jones; and cousin, Rachael.

Tonya is survived by her husband, Derrick McDaniel; bonus son, Jarvis McDaniel; four brothers, Edwin Cortez, Kevin, Michael and Eric Jones; brother-in-law, Thomas McDaniel (Voncille); sisters, Michelle Jones McElhanon (John) and  Dianna Jones; two sisters in law, Shirron Givens and Diedra Harris; aunts, Lana Odewusi, Connie Mabry; uncle, Tony Jones (Felisha), a loving and devoted cousin, Lawana “Sweet Nell” Benson, and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
