Threasa Diane (Haigood) Smith, 61, of Waco, entered the gates of the Promised Land on February 8, 2024.

Threasa’s funeral service and visitation will be held 1pm to 3pmThursday, February 15th at Lake Shore Funeral Home with Steve Adams officiating.

Threasa was born June 29, 1962 to Gene & Joyce Haigood of Waco. She excelled academically from kindergarten to 12th grade at Connally Schools, where she graduated in 1981. Threasa was a student athlete participating in volleyball, basketball, and softball. Her love for the game was indescribable and was dominantly shown playing shortstop while her parents were always pridefully cheering her on from the stands.

In 1983, Threasa became a mother to her one and only child, Christy Michelle. She made it her life’s mission to nurture and raise her daughter, while life had a mission for the two to have an everlasting bond of love and friendship. Although Threasa loved everyone as her own, she cherished her daughter Christy the most.

Outside of her job as a mother, she was a dedicated worker. Threasa’s hard work was shown blissfully through her shift work during her 19 years at Owen’s – Brockway Glass Plant. After leaving the glass plant, Threasa spent the next 10 years at the Walmart Distribution Center. Shortly after, she retired.

Threasa married the love of her life, Bubba Smith, on March 4, 2018. The two spent every minute possible together and often enjoyed taking trips to Bossier City, Louisiana for gambling. There was always a different spark in her smile when she was with Bubba and her laugh was far more infectious when the two laughed together.

In her free time, she enjoyed supporting her grandkids in their sporting events and accomplishments; it was rare when she didn’t attend. Threasa made time for everyone in her family, even for the little moments. She enjoyed singing and dancing to country music and could cut a rug like nobody was watching. Let’s not forget, she was also a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan.

Threasa was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Joyce Haigood.

Her survivors to cherish her memory are husband, Bubba Smith; daughter, Christy and husband Danny Skains; brother and sister, Daryle and Debra Haigood; step son, Jaye Brent and wife Selina; grandkids, Chelsie, Gaige, Jacob, Kalob, Tristin, and Jayestin; great grandkids, Ava and Remi; great-great grandson, Khiree; and soon expecting great granddaughter, Everlee. Threasa was also loved and survived by a host of nieces, nephews and close family friends.
