Thelma Lee Mathews, 69, of Waco, left this world on December 24.

Thelma was born in Waco and raised by her mother Felicia (London) Dickerson and her stepfather Elijah. She graduated from Jefferson Moore High School and attended McLennan Community College where she attained her Associates Degree.

She worked as a social worker at MHMR, and over the years has also worked for women’s group homes, and in the field of childcare and development. She was active in her community and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Thelma’s goal in life was to help others be the best that they can be.

Thelma was preceded in death by her father, Roosevelt; parents, Elijah and Felicia (London) Dickerson; brothers, Elijah Dickerson, Jr., Elisha Dickerson, Henry Dickerson; sister, Ruby Johnson; sisters-in-law, Joyce Dickerson, Reva Faye Dickerson; brother-in-law, James Polk; uncles, Robert McCullough, Albert Jones, and Ernest Jones.

Thelma is survived by her daughters, Rochelle London, Tennille Walls (La Trae Glenn); brother, Ralph Dickerson (Johnnie Mae); sisters, Dorothy Polk, Teresa Williams; brother-in-law, RJ Johnson; grandchildren, Sarabi Holston, Aniya Kennedy, Kobe Walls; beloved aunts, Annie Griffin, Esther McCullough, Lula V. Jones, Henrietta Jones; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
