Steven R. Kroll, 57, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 15th, 2023.  He was a blessing and example to those who knew him.  Steve was the happiest when he was either with his family and loved ones or out on the golf course.

He was born December 11, 1965, in Waco, Texas, the second son to Walter and Linda Kroll.  On January 2, 1988 he married Micah Donaldson in China Spring. They shared 35 wonderful years together.

Steve graduated from China Spring High School in 1984 where he excelled in whatever sport they had to offer.  He then obtained an associate degree in criminal justice from MCC.

Growing up Steve enjoyed hunting and fishing and later became an avid golfer and enjoyed playing in various scrambles, tournaments, or late evening rounds with his two sons, BC and Kelly, at The Lake.  Steve enjoyed not only playing at the course but improving it as well.  When he wasn’t mowing, trimming low hanging limbs, or weed eating, he was taking his grand-kids to the ponds to feed the fish.  He cared for The Lake so deeply that there is a fund set up in his honor for donations for its improvement.

He was also a well-traveled man and took his family to visit all 50 states before his sons graduated from high school.

Steve spent the beginning of his working life at Kestner’s before becoming a Fireman for the City of Waco in 1995 where he had 28 years of service. Steve also worked as a Safety Officer at Waco Paving.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Kroll, and in-laws, Bill and Joan Donaldson.

Survivors include wife of 35 years, Micah Kroll; sons, Bill Cody Kroll and wife Paige, and Kelly Kroll and wife Kaylee; grandchildren, Emma, Carter, Calli, and Brooks Colt; father, Walter Kroll; brother, Darrell Kroll and wife Jill; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family would like to acknowledge a special thank you to Oncologist Dr. Eric Nadler, nurse Laura with Accent Care Hospice, and to “The Tribe” (you know who you are) for your professional care, concern, and going the extra mile for Steve and us

  25. Tracie Webb Jones

Steve Kroll was one of my best friends in high school; he had my back always! We went onto MCC and one day between classes my old Mustang’s door literally fell off. As always, he helped, picked it up, put the door in a friend’s truck, and drove my car to the body shop with no door! Steve and Micha were some of the first friends to come to see Austin when he was born. Such a great man! When he found out my middle name was Fern in 10th grade I never heard him say Tracie again and that is up until the last time I communicated with him this year, he would still say “Fern! What is going on?” You will be missed so much!

  26. Roy and Cherrie Stine
