Philip L. Butler, 84, of Speegleville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Funeral services will be 3PM Saturday, January 4th at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Griffin officiating. Burial will follow at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7PM Friday, January 3rd at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online Guest Book at www.LakeShoreFuneralHome.com.

Philip was born December 15, 1929 in Waco to William Clarence and Kyle (Kemp) Butler. At a young age, he joined the U.S. Army, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He married Jewel Ferguson on April 2, 1949 in Waco. He worked as a construction superintendent for many years for several area construction companies. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, race cars, and spending time at the farm and attending car shows. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family, and his dog, Baby Jewel.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jewel Butler; his parents; brothers, Donald Butler, Duane Butler, and David Butler; and granddaughter, Maria Butler Newman.

Survivors include sons, Lynn Wayne Butler and wife Elvira of Elm Mott, Steven P. Butler and wife Theresa of Austin, and Michael S. Butler and wife Janice of McGregor; daughters, Katherine Nabors and husband Lany of Speegleville, and Darla DiCorte and husband Mark of China Spring; grandchildren, Stephen Butler, Lisa Finley, Rene Coronado, Phillip Butler, Brandie Patterson, David J. Butler, LeeAnn Rodgers, Tracy D

    It was a honor to know someone so special and with at heart of gold! I remember as a little girl coming to visit with mom, dad, and kyla and always amazed at all your beautiful painting’s. You always took kyla and i in the back yard and play and laugh! I always seen you when i worked at heb and you always give me the biggest hug and smile and i love you before you left! I will miss that smile and hug that always lighted up rhe entire room! To the family my thoughts and prayers are with all of you and my love!
