Mary Ann Bennett

Bennett Online obit

My beloved Mother, Grandmother and Friend, Mary Ann Bennett passed away peacefully on September 25, 2023, in Waco, TX. Mary had a short battle with Cancer and had other health issues.

Memorial Service: 11AM, Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Abbott Baptist Church in Abbot, Texas
Burial: a private burial with immediate family will be held to lay her to rest next to her husband Gene and daughter Mary in Ashdown, Arkansas

She was born on July 30, 1953, in Coffeyville, KS to Lula and Clyde Ball. Mary graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School in Coffeyville. During her early adulthood she worked at Medical Lodge as a Candy Striper and later as a CNA. On September 18, 1976, Mary was married to Gene Austin Benett, and they welcomed two daughters Mary and Ruth Bennett before Gene was tragically taken away. Mary became a single mother of two and always put her children first before her needs. Many memories were made throughout the years as we were called the three amigos or Bennett girls always sticking together.

In 2008, Mary relocated to the Central Texas area and called West her home for many years. She enjoyed going to Church, talking with friends and always a phone call away for a tag along trip with her daughter. Over the last few years Mary had a calling to make beaded necklaces, rings and bracelets. She would spend hours stringing beads to just give away to nurses, doctors, friends, even people she didn’t know. She said it was her calling to let them know God loved them. Each item was made directly for them, and no two items were made the same.

Mary leaves behind her daughter, Ruth Slovak of West and husband Bernard; sister, Marylou Bell and husband Robert of Prescott, KS; brother, Clyde Ball of Dearing, KS; nieces Brenda Bell and Angela Stevenson; nephew, Robert Bell; her grand-kids, Michael Holler of Coffeyville, Ks and Marcus Slovak of West.

Mary joins her beloved husband, Gene; mother Lula and Father Clyde; mother-in-law, Trivia Monday; daughter, Mary Hanlon; and son-in-law Russell in death, and many more loving relatives who have passed before her.

Flowers or memorials may be sent to the Abbott Baptist Church 234 Mesquite St. Abbott, TX 76621 or to her daughter’s home Ruth Slovak 5482 Ft. Graham West, TX.
