Kenneth Ray Walton, Sr, 78, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021.

Service Information: Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 2, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 9997 S. 3rd St. Rd. in Downsville. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Viewing will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 1, at Lake Shore Funeral Home.

Mr. Kenneth Ray Walton, Sr.” Entrepreneur Extraordinaire” born August 1, 1942, to the parentage of the late Mr. Robert Walton, Sr. & and Mrs. Mable Evans Walton, Aunt, Jewell Walton Pimpton, who was like a second Mother. He was reared in Downsville, TX. Kenneth was an ordinary guy who did extraordinary things.  His philosophy, If you believe it you can achieve it. He did it his way.

Kenneth accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Downsville, TX. Kenneth moved away to Los Angeles, California at a young age to live with his Uncle, the late Wilbert Walton.  He returned to Waco and years later served with the Usher Unit at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

He was employed at Katy Railroad and Owens Illinois Fiberglass. Kenneth believed that “A MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE.” With that in mind, his vision was to be his own boss and in 1974 he started his own business which spanned over a period of nearly fifty years.  He established the first guy’s social club Big “D”Country Club, in Downsville, TX, which provided financial assistance to the needy as well as local churches throughout the community at Easter and Christmas.  His other business endeavors included: The People’s Choice Club, The Hood Club, Watergate Club, and Walker’s Lounge. He was best known as the “King of BBQ.”  “Walton’s Western BBQ” later “Pop Walton’s BBQ”, and Walton’s Lawn and Landscaping. Kenneth went out of his way to help others, family and friends as well. He partnered with his wife and was a charter member of the “Degrate Family Reunion Association.”

Pop Walton was special, he never met a stranger, he was unique in so many ways. During President Bush 43 in Crawford, he catered and served the Flight Crews on Air Force 1 and Air Force 2. Other venues were Wiley, Carver, and Tennyson Middle Schools, Robinson ISD, Chilton ISD, Providence Hospital, Sanderson Farms, Truett Seminary, Robinson Police Dept., to name a few.

He is preceded in in death by his father and mother; sister, Alma Walton Bowers; brothers, Harlem (Sister-in-law, Durby Jo), Robert Walton, Jr., and Allen LeNell Walton.

Those left to cherish his memory is his devoted partner in life of 57 years, Ethel Degrate Walton; children, Kenneth Walton, Jr. ( Felecia), Cristilyn Henderson ( Ardis), Vincent Walton (Tracy); siblings, Carolyn(Carnell)Mason, Debra (Alfonzo) Walton, Barbara (David) Walton, Shirley(Cecil) Ella (Russell) Holsinger, Wilbert (Sarah) Walton, Ronald (Gwen) Walton and Sandra Griffin; grandchildren, Toya, Terra, Keaira, Vincent Jr, Jaylon, Vanessa, Jaylsa, Kacy, DeAndre, Shanice, Tyeric, Takoria, Kenecia, Arneshia, & Christian; great-grandchildren, NyAisha, Adrian, Kemari, DeAndre Jr., Amaria, Amaria, Autumn Rose, Kacy jr., Amiyah, Aubrey, Alexandra, Elgin, Jai’Mez, Kayden, and Zacchaeus; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
