Mr. George Dupree Jr, age 75 of Waco, received his call to be with the Lord on January 7, 2023 At Baylor Scott and White/Hillcrest Hospital.

George Willie Dupree Jr was born December 21, 1947, in San Antonio Texas to George Willie Dupree and Dorothy Nell “Dot” Dupree.
George attended public school in San Antonio, Texas and graduated from G W Brackenridge High School. He attended Trinity University and Texas Southern University where he was a member of the basketball team. George received a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from Texas Southern University. He also earned a Masters of Education Degree from Tarleton State University.
George married Clara Vernette Dupree and to this union three sons were born.
George was a faithful servant of the Lord. While residing in Temple Texas, he was a member of the 10th Street and Avenue M Church of Christ where he served as a Sunday School Teacher. He later became a member of the Hood Street Church of Christ in Waco, Texas.
George was an educator and coach for over 35 years. First for the Temple Independent School District as an educator and coach at Lamar Middle School and then for the Waco Independent School District. He held several positions during his tenure in Waco Schools including educator, basketball coach, and Assistant Principal at University High School, Assistant Principal at University Middle School, Assistant Principal at Waco 9th Grade High School, and Assistant Principal at Waco High School. He was also Head Principal at Tennyson Middle School and Director of Human Resources.
In 2018 George was inducted into the Waco Independent School District Athletics Lifetime Athletic Honor Roll in recognition of his significant contributions benefitting student athletes.
George had a passion for photography and classic cars. He was an avid reader and a bible scholar. He also enjoyed playing basketball, playing board games, watching sports and spending time with his family.
George was a loving person with a strong faith in God, compassion for others, and could always be counted on. He demonstrated this by volunteering with various charities, Thanksgiving Turkey Drives for the church, and mentorship.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Willie Dupree and his mother, Dorothy Dupree.
He leaves to cherish his memory: His three loving and devoted sons, George Dupree III of Waco, Christopher Dupree of Mansfield, and Michael Dupree of Waco. His cherished grandchildren: Brendan Dupree, Brianna Dupree, Braylon Dupree, and Marlee Dupree. His Uncle, Howard Fisher and His Aunt, Viriginia Mccrimmon. His Cousins: Gary Fisher, Michael Mccrimmon, Stevie Fisher, Alika Fisher-Thomas, Earven Flowers, Kristen Fisher, Adrienne Fisher, Devin Thomas, Michael Mccrimmon Jr, Tristan Thomas, Braylon Flowers, Merrick Fisher, and a host of other relatives and friends.

My sincere condolences to you for the loss of George (Penny). I didn’t know him personally, but knew that he was loved and admired by his family and friends. I‘d always heard good things about him through my sisters and his church members of Temple. It was as though he was a great celebrity. After reading his obituary I feel that he was truly a celebrity to all who knew him.

George was one of the friendliest persons I have met and THE friendliest neighbor – we lived right next to him.
I never, and I mean I NEVER saw George without a smile.
Coming or going he always had his hand up in his car waving hello.
It got to the point where I tried to beat him to the punch and wave at him first whenever I saw him, but that rarely happened… he was always smiling and waving at me.
These days it seems there’s a lack of people with character and integrity and a very positive outlook on life.
Maybe it’s the sign of the times. George was one of those rare individuals with a solid character and deep integrity.
Be patient George you’ll be seeing me and all my pets that you know from my backyard sometime in the future in the spirit world with God.

George to quote a scripture, give us a chuckle with a hilarious story, or encourage us when we felt like giving up. George had the biggest heart. I know he is up in heaven asking the Lord where all the antique cars are stored so he can take a spin! We’ll miss you George. Until we meet at Jesus’ feet! Save a seat for us all!

George was my friend and there were no two friends closer than George and me. Two peas in a
pod, Mutt and Jeff-we’ve been tight as brothers
since we were 16 years old. Through challenges at school and with our families, to debates about sports teams, and relationships-nothing was off-limits in our conversations.
George helped shape my thinking on many things. He helped me grow up and become the man I am today. For 60 years, we were always there for each other-sometimes, just to listen, sometimes, for advice and support, but always there.
Today, I’m hurting badly because my friend is no longer here. I can’t call and hear his voice or his laugh. I can’t hear him tell jokes or talk about his family. We can’t compare experiences. But, I’m also blessed because I have wonderful memories on which to reflect when pain of his loss is too great. I am truly blessed to have been able to call George my friend!!!
2 Timothy 4:7 says: I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race and I have kept the faith.
George’s fight is over and he is now being rewarded with eternal life with the Father.

I am proud to have been one of many young men Coach Dupree took under his wing, As a coach, he taught us to always give your best effort. He coached, mentored and groomed many of us to become better Men, Fathers and productive citizens. I will never forget the years I had the opportunity to be coached by Coach Dupree. Some people say that a child’s early adolescence is when they are most impressionable, for me and my teammates , coach Dupree certainly did just that. I first met George in 1966. He was my first roommate at Trinity University. He was a sophomore and I was a junior. Because he was from San Antonio, I hardly saw him at night because he had the option to go home.
But when he did come to the suite I would definitely know it because he came in singing and dancing. I would ask him, “Who are you today, Sam Cooke or Jackie Wilson?” He would say, “No, today I am Marvin Gaye.”
George was a funny person but he was also a serious person. Even if George did someone to make someone upset, you couldn’t get mad at him because he was really a loving person.
Those are just some of the memories that I have of George.
May George Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory.
