Bobby Gene Dowell 79, of Purmela, formerly of China Spring, passed away Friday, February 17, 2023.

Visitation:  5PM – 7PM, Monday, February 20 at Lake Shore Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: 10AM, Tuesday, February 21 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial: Driver Cemetery, near Teague.

Gene was born July 2, 1943 in Fairfield to Emmett Jasper Dowell and Jewel Marie (Hall) Dowell.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gerald Dowell and Jimmy Dowell; infant son, Bobby Dowell; and son, Gerald Dowell.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kay Dowell; daughter, Laurie Yates; grandchildren, Dakota Yates (Whitney), Makayla Yates, Sherrie Yates, and Millie Cline; two great-grandchildren, Christopher, Piercelynn, and “Baby Yates” on the way; brother, Joe Dowell (Maryann); “like a son”, Larry Dowell (Susan); and numerous nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives.

  6. I just happened to find this while checking obits that aren’t in the Trib. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Laurie and the family. Since my spinal surgery, I don’t get out much. I can’t make the funeral.
