Gayle Yvonne Jacobson passed away October 23, 2023

Yvonne was born in Austin, TX on December 31, 1935, to Jabe Brittain and Jenny Ellen (Morgan) Chapman.  She graduated from Austin High School and attended the University of Texas.  She met Lawrence “Jake” Jacobson while at East Avenue Baptist Church in Austin, where she was church secretary and organist.  They married in 1956 and first lived in Temple, where daughter Gayle was born.  Jake worked for Procter and Gamble and Yvonne was a stay home mom and later a kindergarten music teacher.  They later moved in Nashville, Tennessee for several years where Yvonne was the church pianist and music assistant at Woodmont Baptist Church.  She met her best friend Helen Parris while in choir at Woodmont Baptist.  They continued their friendship through weekly calls for almost 50 years, even after Yvonne moved back to Texas and she valued their friendship dearly.  Yvonne returned to Texas when Jake’s job with P&G brought them to Houston in 1972. While in Houston, she worked hard and became Vice President of Energy Buyers Service Corporation for several years. Yvonne and Jake moved to Waco in 1989 to be near their daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.

Yvonne was a lifelong Baptist who loved music and the Lord.  She had a generous heart, sweet spirit and was the best Mom and Nana anyone could have ever had.  Her family was her focus, and they meant the world to her.  Yvonne was most proud of her wonderful grandkids, and she was an important person in all their lives. Whether helping carpool, dropping off lunches or attending the many activities and sporting events, she was always there to support them. Yvonne was an amazing wife, mom and Nana who brightened our days and loved us all.  She was a shining example of what a Christian women should be.  Our lives are saddened by not being able to have her with us, but we rejoice that she is now with our Lord and Savior where there is no sorrow and only joy, where she can sing and praise our Heavenly Father for all eternity.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, Jabe and Jenny Chapman and her husband of 56 years, Lawrence “Jake” Jacobson.

She is survived by her daughter, Gayle Blum and husband Brady of Waco; grandchildren, Brittany Sargent and husband John of Dallas, Caroline Stevenson and husband T. J. of Waco, and Jake Blum of Dallas; and great grandchildren, Callie Sargent, John Jr. Sargent, Brady Sargent, Barrett Stevenson and Abigail Stevenson.

The family would like to thank caregivers Charlie Wells and Pat Willis for the care they provided to Yvonne during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco.
