Donna Jean (Mathis) Holmes, 80, of Lacy Lakeview, passed away Friday, August 25, 2023.

Donna was born April 17, 1943 to Loyd Mathis and Francis (Lusk) Mathis. She grew up and attended schools at Prairie Hill and Mexia, and received her bachelors degree in education from Baylor University. She taught 3rd grade for 30 years at Connally ISD. She was a member of Prairie Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include cousins and close friends.

Awww, she was my 3rd grade teacher. My condolences to the family.
She was my 3rd grade teacher, when I was in 2nd grade, I heard rumors she was mean. When I got to 3rd grade, she cared and was supportive and tried to assist if you needed help. Now that I am 60, she was one of the greatest and changed my life. She was the teacher and authoritive figure in the classroom and she was in charge. It seems nowadays the children are in-charge and the teachers are very limited. Thank you Ms. Holmes.
