Dawnelle Bell, 76, of Waco passed away on January 22, 2024 in her home surrounded by family.

Visitation: 5 – 7PM Friday, February 2 at Lake Shore Funeral Home
Funeral Service: 12PM Saturday, February 3 at Lovers Leap Baptist Church 301 Bosque Blvd, Waco, Texas 76707. Burial will immediately follow to Oakwood Cemetery

Dawnelle Montez Williams-Bell was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 8, 1947 to George Cortez Williams Sr. and Geraldine Mandeville Williams. Dawnelle graduated from Hirsch High School in 1965. After graduating she was employed at Chicago Tribune Herald for 14 years.

She relocated to Waco, Texas in 1981 where she was employed at NCNB as a data processor for seven years, and later went to Waco ISD to help with mentally challenged children until her retirement in 2014.

Dawnelle was preceded in death by her parents, George and Geraldine Williams; sister, Cheryl Williams; brother, George Williams Jr; and grandchild,  Alexis Nicole Allen.

Dawnelle loved to talk and tried to help individuals as much as she could. She loved to bake and was always at Lowes or Home Depot searching and collecting different plants. She was a faithful member of Lovers Leap Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board, President of the Mission Board and the Adult Sunday School Teacher. Dawnelle loved her church family, and especially her Pastor and First Lady, Pastor and Sis. Ferrell. She directed lots of plays and programs during her time at the church, and baked cakes for every member birthdays.

She is survived by her three daughters, Michelle Fairley (Patrick), Kristal and Renee Mayes of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren, Breanna Wiley, Taten Wiley, Travis Hall Jr., Nautica Hall, Karman Turner Jr. and Gerald Harris III; great-grandchildren, Zavaya Wiley, and awaiting the arrival of Tra’shawn Hall;  niece and nephew, Katrina and Marquez Williams of Houston, Texas: a special sister cousin, Paulett Vaughn of Chicago, Illinois; As well as a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank Steven Houston, Cynthia Baker, Monica Jones, (caregivers) Dr. Mason and the Scott and White team in Temple, Texas, Cynthia Deckert, and the rest of the team of Faith Presbyterian Hospice in Dallas, Texas, for their considerate and loving care for our mother.

  9. Dear friends; I was shocked and saddened to see your mom’s obituary. We had not visited in several years and I had no idea she was so ill. She was very special to me and to others at Lake Waco. She was a hard worker and loved our students. She was loved and respected by staff, students and the families of our students. We had some difficult times but we also laughed a lot. Our students made our days mostly enjoyable aand eventful. I thank God for placing her in my life and in the lives of our kids. .
    Due to health problems I can not currently drive or attend community events. I am sorry I will not Be able to attend her service. You will be in my prayers.
