David Ray Foster

2023 Foster 0002(1)

Dave passed away at Waco Health and Rehabilitation August 12, 2023 after a short battle with cancer.

Memorial Service: 3PM Saturday, October 21 at Lake Shore Funeral Home.

Dave was born April 2, 1953 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Ernest Ray and Barbara Jean Foster.

Dave graduated from Robinson High School May 28, 1971. He was a master carpenter and cabinet maker by trade and took pride in his work. One if not his greatest accomplishment was done on the renovation of the Roosevelt Hotel in 2006. Few know that the owner of the Roosevelt Hotel at the time was Mike Clark who Dave worked for and he did all the exterior trim work on the windows and doors as well as the interior trim work over a period of a couple of years. Dave also did the trim work on several million-dollar homes in the Waco area. Few craftsmen in Waco could match Dave’s skill at building staircases.

Dave was a man who was always willing to help his friends and family however he could, he will be forever missed by everyone who knew him.

Dave loved the outdoors and he hitchhiked from Waco to California, then up Highway 1 to Washington state in his younger years. During his marriage to Phyllis they traveled to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks in Wyoming on vacations plus many trips to the gulf coast on fishing trips.

Dave enjoyed going camping, hunting and fishing, working in his vegetable garden, which he shared the huge tomatoes, onions, squash he harvested with his friends, family and co-workers, visiting with friends and tending to his faithful Redbone Hound “Annie”. He was an avid fisherman and deer hunter, with rifle and bow and owned the record for several years for a large-mouth bass which weighed 10.60 lbs. and was 26 inches long that he caught on a rod and reel on January 17, 1998 at Tradinghouse Creek Reservoir.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, Phyllis Cheryl Pavelka Foster; father, Ernest Ray Foster; mother, Barbara Jean Foster Dulock; sister, Lisa Jeannine Brieger; and brother, Stephen E. Foster of Waco.

Dave leaves behind his nieces, Megan Rae Brieger of Waco and Lacy Blue Gomez of Moody; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sue Wilshire of Elm Mott and his beloved Redbone hound “Annie” who has found a forever home in Houston with a loving retired couple.

A special thanks to his special friends, Jeff and Jodi Woodruff, Al Sterling, Chris and Kathy Slavik, Bret and Brittany Mathis and Morgan and Michelle at Gentiva Hospice Care for helping care for him during his battle with cancer.
