Cynthia was born June 30, 1936 in Waco to Jessie and Mae Fannie (Hawkins)Thomas. She graduated from Downsville High School and attended Paul Quinn College. On December 22, 1957, she married Billy R. Smith.

Cynthia was a long time member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, where she celebrated her love for the Lord for over 67 years. She found joy giving to others, and was considered a mother to many. “Momma Smith”, as she was fondly called, lived up to her name with her hospitality and love. She was always willing to open her home to those in need of love, shelter, prayer, and food. She never knew a stranger. Momma Smith will be greatly missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Billy; and three brothers, Jessie Thomas, Tyree Thomas, and Willie Thomas.

She is survived by two daughters, Sherrel Kirklin and husband Oscar, and Kathy Tucker and husband C. Corey, both of Waco; a son, Mitchell Smith and wife Elizabeth of Plano; three grandsons, Jeffrey Thomas, Chris Tucker, and Vyonte Guess, all of Waco; one granddaughter, Abigail Smith of Austin; one great-grandson, Q Vonte Guess of Waco; one sister, Katherine Holmes of Waco; devoted sister-in-law, Willie Mae Thomas of Waco; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Thomas of Waco and Genice Cartwright of Fort Worth; as well as many other dear family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Douglas Thomas, Odale Thomas, Willie Thomas, Jr., Ronnie Thomas, Kerry Thomas, Jessie Thomas, Jamol Brocks and Darrell Majors.

The family wishes to acknowledge a special thanks to everyone at Regent Care Center for their love and care, and for making Cynthia feel “at home” and also to Bluebonnet Hospice.
