Betty Elaine Hamblin, 63, of China Spring, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, Texas. She was born October 6, 1947 in Springfield, Illinois to Gordon and Betty Rhodes. On June 11, 1977, Betty married Richard Hamblin and shortly after moved to Waco, Texas. Together they raised six children.

Betty was very active in many things, always willing to help out where she could. Betty’s door and heart was always open to someone that was in need. Many knew her as Mom, always room for one more to love. Betty left an imprint in everyone’s life that will be a legacy long after she went to Heaven. Her courage, strength and love for life will always be remembered.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hamblin; parents; and one brother.

Survivors include daughters, Channa Godwin of Abilene, and Donna Rohan and husband, Jeremy of Katy; sons, Edward Grimmett of Waco, Lee Grimmett of China Spring, Eric Grimmett of Whitney, and Richard Hamblin of China Spring; eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild; brothers, William Rhodes of Florida, and Larry Rhodes of Illinois; sisters, Janet Sexton, and Paula Cook, both of Illinois, and Sally Hicks of Indiana.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Friday, January 14th at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco, with Chaplain Curtis Holland officiating. No visitation is scheduled. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online Guest Book at www.LakeShoreFuneralHome.com.

I was very close to her at one point in my life and even though things did not pan out with her son and me, I still loved her and the family. Rest in peace miss b!

  11. I am so sorry to here about Betty. When my sisters and I were little growing up we use to ride our bikes and hang out with Ricky. What a wonderful woman she was.

    You were a very nice friend, and I will always remember all the talks we used to have while I was working for CMS..We shared alot of laughs together. I will have you and the family in my thoughts and prayers. I know that you are in a much better place, and the lord will watch over those that are still here with us.
