Earl Preston “Pro” Jackson was born on September 10,1949 to Edward Jackson and Rosie (Holland) Jackson in Brenham, TX.

In the 7th grade after the family moved to Waco, TX, Earl met Janice Tigner—the love of his life! The two went on to become high school sweethearts and married on August 7, 1970.
To this union they were blessed with four children: Reggie, Aericka, LaShawnda and Ashley.

Earl received his formal education from Waco ISD, and graduated from A. J. Moore High School in 1969, and then he went on to serve in the United States Army. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Earl was honorably discharged in 1972. Upon returning home from military service, Earl worked at Fleetwood Homes and shortly thereafter embarked on a career as a technician at M&M Mars where he retired after 25 years of service.

A faithful member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and a volunteer for Meals On Wheels, Earl enjoyed giving back to the community. As his health declined, he remained a faithful and dedicated parishioner and community supporter until his death.

Pro loved his children but even more he loved his grandchildren. “Pops” was always on the sideline of a basketball or football game cheering on his grandchildren and spoiling the whole team. He loved working out, taking care of his yard, shopping, sports, and television. He had an infectious smile but an even more infectious laugh. He always had a joke or a funny story to tell and loved to entertain. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed by many.

He was a proud member of the A. J. Moore High School Class of 1969 and kept a close bond with many of his classmates. He would regularly attend class reunions and always look forward to meeting up with his “brothers”.

On July 27, 2023 Earl was welcomed into heaven by his parents, Edward and Rosie and his sister Velma “Cookie” Smith.

His love will continue to be felt by his loving wife, Janice Jackson, who cared for and supported him until his final days, his four children: Reggie (Tiffany) Jackson, Aericka (Myron) Ridge, LaShawnda (Telly) Woods, and Ashley (Reggie) Lewis; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; one brother, Edward “Shay” Jackson; four sisters, Melvin “Jeanie” Taylor, Gloria “Poo-pie” Thomas, Rose “Honey” Bennett, and Shirley “Jojo” Boston.

He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a bonus grandson Lenard Meyers.

Earl lived a long courageous life especially after a single lung transplant on November 4, 2009. We would like to thank the Houston Methodist Lung transplant team, Providence Hospital, the Brazos Kidney Center, and Kindred Hospital and Rehab for their care and compassion for our loved one. Special thanks to Ana Scafidi for her continued support throughout the whole transplant process.

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain for the former things are passed away.” Rev. 21:4

So sorry for your loss and praying for comfort and peace. I have to share a funny story, Pro told me with a smile when I was in the 9th grade that I had a jaw line like Lt. Gerard that played on the Fugitive. He said it in such a kind way I was not upset, needless to say I have a strong jaw line. He was a kind man and each time we ran into each other while shopping in the grocery store there was a smile because of this memory. Love and Blessings

  9. I pray that God continues to give this family strength in a time such as this. Pro will truly be missed.
    Love always,
