DO NOT DRINK & DRIVE!

Shattered Dreams is designed to educate students, parents, and the community about the serious issue of underage drinking and driving, by providing a realistic experience and encouraging them to make positive choices. This presentation was held before the school’s prom, an occasion on which teenagers are most likely to consume alcoholic beverages.

This Involved the dramatization of an alcohol-related accident staged in front of the school. While the entire student body watches, police, fire, and other emergency personnel responded to the scene. The “victim” students were transported by ambulance to Hillcrest Hospital, while the “deceased” student was transported to Lake Shore Funeral Home. The “drunk driver” was arrested and transported to the McLennan County Jail for book-in and arraignment.

The following day, a “mock” funeral service was held for the two victims that perished in the accident. The event was held at China Spring Performing Arts Center. Two closed caskets were present. A minister and singer shared words of comfort and song to the victims families and to the entire student body. After the mock funeral, Laura Cranfill (M.A.D.D.) told of her real-life tragedy of the loss of her teenage son’s life as well as her countless surgeries and disabilities that she sustained from being hit head-on by a drunk driver.

The two day event ended with a strong message to the student body that “Drinking Ends All Dreams.”
