On January 1, 1963, Dean married Martha Bernita Ragsdale in San Saba. They were married for sixty-three wonderful years. During their early years of marriage, they welcomed four boys into their lives: Clifton Dean, Roy Gene, Doyle Eugene, and Arvin Christopher.

During Dean’s life he worked along the side of his father Arvin and brother Aubrey. Together they had two businesses, Conner Construction and A. F. Conner and Sons. Conner Construction built homes while A. F. Conner and Sons put in rural water systems in different rural towns around Texas settling in Waco.

Dean attended Lake Shore Drive Church of Christ for many years where he served as a deacon and an elder. Dean served for several years on the school board for Bosqueville School District. Dean retired from the City of Woodway not once but twice, finally in 2007.

Dean loved to hunt and play golf with his two sons. He also loved watching old westerns on TV.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents, Arvin and Faye; sons, Roy and Doyle; and brother, Aubrey. Dean is survived by his wife, Bernita; sons, Clifton (Debbie) and Chris (Mandy); granddaughters, Karen (Ben) Roberts, Edie and Josie Conner; great-granddaughters, Libby, and Mattie Roberts. Condolence Messages

  1. Laurie Dowell-Yates

Mrs. Conner, Chris, and the rest of the family-
So sorry for your loss. Every football game and band trip taken; you were always there. We sure had some fun times on those band trips! A very big part and heart of the Bulldog band. My heart goes out to you. Lots of love, hugs and prayers sent.

  2. Dean was one of the elders that hired me to be the youth and family minister at Lake Shore Dr and brought me and my family to Waco almost sixteen years ago. We will forever be grateful not only for that but also for “Bampa” and “Bamma” treating our children like they were their own grandchildren.

  3. Jessica Craig (Goode)

Bernita, and Chris, I’m so sorry for your loss. Dean and Bernita are some of my first memories at Lake Shore and how warm and welcoming you were to a 14 year old. I always enjoyed hugs from Dean and a hearing his laugh. Praying for you all in your grief and thankful for the joy that one day we will meet again.

  4. Merry Wilburn, Chaplain Community Healthcare of Texas

So sorry for your loss. Thank you for allowing us to assist with his care.
