Sue Rascoe Lackey went home to be with our Lord Jesus on Wednesday, December 23rd, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A Celebration of Life Service: 1PM Saturday, December 26th at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Moore Cemetery in Chalk Bluff. Friends and family are welcome for fellowship following the services at the family residence.
Born Mary Alice Paul May 10, 1924, she went by Sue Paul and was raised in East Texas near Wills Point, until she went to SMU where she met and married Forrest Patton. From that marriage, came her first two children, Forrest Paul and Gail. With her children, she moved to Houston, Texas, where, as a single mom, she worked many years as an executive secretary at several oil companies.
In 1958, through mutual friends at First Methodist Church, she was introduced to Frank Rascoe, a man of strong character, with whom she was married until his death in 1997. Together, they raised her two children, and she attended evening classes at University of Houston in order to get her teaching degree. She began teaching second grade at Spring Branch School District where her husband also worked as an Assistant Principal. After the first two children were grown, they adopted a son, Frankie. A year later, Sue became pregnant at age 42, with her daughter, Lisa. While raising her “second” family, she worked during the summers to achieve her Master’s in education.
While their youngest daughter was attending Baylor, Sue and Frank retired from their jobs in education and purchased a piece of property on the Brazos River near Waco and began planting pecan trees, following Frank’s dream of having an orchard. However, Sue also had her own dream in mind. She had always enjoyed volunteering in hospitals, so she decided to go to nursing school, and was accepted at MCC at age 62. After achieving her RN, she worked for the next 19 years at DePaul and at a local detox residence, where she couldn’t help but sincerely tell people what a better “high” Jesus is. At age 80, she went on a mission trip to India with a group from Antioch Community Church. At age 83, she met and married Guy Lackey, with whom she had a sweet relationship until his death in 2014.
Sue was a generous-hearted woman who disciplined herself through the years to think positively and to see the good in every person she met. She gave financially to many worthy organizations, and when she saw a personal need someone had, whether for groceries, or dental work, or money, she would pray. If she felt God’s lead, she would immediately follow up and give.
Throughout all the challenges of life (and there were many), she held onto the hand of Jesus with trust and fierce tenacity. Her life and generous spirit, so expressive of God’s love, have been an inspiration, not only to her family, but also to many others who have had the privilege to know her.
Sue is survived by her children, Forrest Patton, who lives in Kingsville, TX; Gail Blanpied and husband Mark from Waco, TX; Lisa Venable who lives in Oxnard, CA; and Frankie Rascoe and his wife Sylvia who live in San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren: Kate McKinnon; Laura and Lee Venable; Francisco, Antonio, and Sofia Rascoe; and Rosie and Taylor Blanpied; as well as 6 great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Grace House, a recovery house for women, Antioch Community Church, Waco, TX and Providence Hospice.
The family wishes to thank those who, with gentleness and kindness, assisted our mother in her transition home, especially Jana Brown, Providence Hospice, and Visiting Angels.

I worked with Sue for several years at the DePaul Center. She was an awesome mentor & role model to me as a new nurse. I had never met a more gracious & caring woman who lived her life to the fullest. Sue is rejoicing with her savior, and Heaven has become even brighter.
I first met Sue in 2005. I was in Mercy House at Antioch Community Church & we were in the same Life group of Dean & Sherri Lessmans. Sue was always so kind to me. In 2007 when I married my wife Kandy she allowed us to live in her nice apartment next to her home. She supported me on a number of mission trips. Such an encourager & generous person. She will be missed here on earth but I know she was welcomed into her eternal home. Praying comfort over the family. Blessings, Wes & Kandy Reese

Mom, Yogi and I are sorry to hear about Sue’s passing. We will remember your family in our prayers.
Sue was such a joy to work with at DePaul for so many years. She always brought a gallon of water each morning and left with an empty jug in the evening. She had the perfect heart for nursing and was loved by her patients and co-workers alike. She will be missed.

Gail, Your mom was such an amazing person. After reading the obituary, I discovered how wonderful a person she was. She lived a very full life and I know you will miss her. The world has lost a sincerely generous and kind person.

What an Awesome Woman of God Sue was and I consider it a blessing to have known her in this life! She will be missed; but, I know her life is truly one to be celebrated. Her quiet spirit and love for others with the seeds of
Jesus’ love she sowed to so many will have her living in others for many years.

I will cherish our sweet and happy memories together at DePaul.
Your dear Mother would stop in my office and share loving thoughts of Frank
and of all her wonderful children. I felt I knew Frank, as he was a friend of my Father,
with the Central Texas Pecan Association. Many stories were shared about Forrest, the eldest son,
who served our Great County in the USMC, as my Father was retired Col USMC.
As an RN at DePaul, she was so caring and thoughtful to all the patients in need…
She chose the right profession in nursing.
Rest in Heavenly peace…it is certain that Heaven gained another beautiful angel.
Her memory will continue to be in the hearts of people she touched…

Mrs. Rascoe’s Family,
We never could get use to calling her Lackey, no disrespect meant, but we’ve known your parents since we bought the land next to them (26+ years) and they were both extremely caring, helpful and nice; the kind of neighbors anyone would love to have. She was an amazing woman and we couldn’t believe it when she did return to nursing school. She was surely a go-getter and she did. She will be truly missed, on the road on her bicycle and much more. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time. May God wrap each of you in His arms and comfort you. Love and prayers to you all,
