Rose Marie Hughes, 65, of Waco, passed away Monday, February 19, 2024.
Visitation: 5 – 7PM Friday, February 23 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel
Memorial Service: 11AM Saturday, February 24 at Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church 2625 S. 18th St, Waco, TX 76706
Rose was born January 15, 1959, in Waco Texas. She professed her hope for Christ at an early age and dedicated her life to working in the church in various capacities. Most notably she served in the Choir, Church Secretary, Drill Team, Usher Board, Mission, Sunday school, and Outreach Ministries. She married Emmett Hughes on August 26, 1978, and this union was blessed with two children.
She was preceded in death by mother, Louise Courtney, and parents, Moses and Katherine Hall.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband, Emmett Hughes; three children, LaShawndra, Jason, and Jamie (Daphne); three grandchildren, Kayla, Micah, and Caleb; six siblings, Jessie (Mary) Courtney, Fleta (Bennie)Watson, Larry (Cynthia) Courtney, Patsy (Arnold) Wilson, Rita Smith, Mona Martin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and beloved friends.

Rose was a cheerful and kind woman.
She helped many students and families in
Waco ISD, and I enjoyed working with Rose at CCMS.
May she rest peacefully with God.

Bro. Hughes my prayers are with you and your entire family doing this trying time, just continue to hold on to God’s unchanging hand, because He is our comfort and strength in our time of need. He tells us in His word that weeping may endure for a night but joy will come in the morning, just how long the morning is only God knows, but keep your grip to His hand and He(God) will carry you through. Stay Strong…. Take Care…. I can hear my good friend and former co-worker Rose telling now when I talk too much… ” Bye Boy” LOL….

Any time Rose entered a classroom there was always a bright joyful presence. I didn’t know what it was then but I do now. It’s been over 48 years since I’ve seen you and I still remember your kindness. Prayers for all your loved ones left here to carry on.
