TMC(Ret. USN) Philip Arthur Speasmaker ,75, of Waco passed away on Saturday, April 20,2024 in his home with his family by his side.
Visitation: 5-8 Friday May 3 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel.
Celebration of Life: 10am Saturday, May 4 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1011 Boston St. in Bellmead.
Born April 11, 1949 in Columbus Ohio to Philp W and Marion Speasmaker . He was the second child of five siblings, one sister and three brothers. Being in a military family growing up with his father serving in the Army Air Corp. then the Air force his obligation to serve his country ran deep in his soul. Shortly after graduating La Vega HS in 1967, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to be a Torpedoman’s Mate. During his military career he performed maintenance on various submersible weapons systems for both submarine and surface vessels rising to the rank of Torpedoman’s Mate Chief Petty Officer during his tenure in the Navy. Early in his career , while stationed at Sub Base Pearl Harbor, he met his soulmate and the love of his life, Amerita P. Asuncion. They Later married and had five wonderful kids. After his illustrious Naval career, he retired to Waco with his family, not being done with military, he received his Associates Degree in Behavioral Health and began his next chapter assisting local veterans at the V.A. Regional office here in Waco and various local services including his church.
Philip is preceded in death by his parents, Philip W and Marion; brothers, Bill, John and Chris.
Philip is survived by wife, Amerita; sister, Diane; sons, Philip W(Traci), James(Shelly), Michael(Christina), Francis(Jackie); daughter, Tymberly(Jessi); grandchildren, Keegan, Kalli, Hunter, Braelyn, Lane, Ashlynn, Izabel, Azalea Rose, Taylei-Loke and Amelia.

Condolences for the family of “Philip Arthur Speasmaker”
I’m so sorry about Phil. I worked with him and he was a hard worker but in his spare time he was also a hoot. He told us several stories about his time in service. Phil will be missed by all his family and friends. He is now in the arms of our precious Lord and he will be fine. One day you will all see him again. I am praying for the family. I know you will never truly get over this but the hurt will eventually lessen in time. Take care of yourselves and may The Lord be with all of you.
We are so sorry for your loss. Phil always had such good stories to tell us. Prayers for you and your family.

LaVega students remain close no matter what year we graduated. Phil will be missed.

Rita— I’m so sorry for your loss. Phil was quite a guy. I remember the dinners he helped serve at St Joseph’s . The conversation was always lively and he always had a mischievious twinkle in his eye. Always a joker. But he loved you and the kids. He was a good man. He will be missed.
Our deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Although we have not met Uncle Phil in person, we connected on Facebook and I always enjoyed his posts.
To Auntie Rita and cousins, may you be comforted by our prayers, and hope to see you all again soon. Rest in peace Uncle.

I worked with Mr Phil in the IPC office at the Waco VA processing veterans claims. He was always an early bird and busy working when I walked in to began my work shift.
Being Ex-military myself, he would always give me a quick salute every morning and then bid me a good morning and get to work.
When he retired… I went to visit him at his home. It really made his afternoon.
He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Douglas MacArthur.. sums it up best when he said: ” Old soldiers never died they just fade away..”

Rita and kids, How sorry I am for your loss. I was stunned. We had some good times in Groton, between work, softball, volleyball, and kids. I remember we’d all go down to Dairy Queen after another softball win. We could crack each up pretty well. Phil was a fine professional, too. An excellent role model for all the young men that worked with and for us. I will remember him with a sly smile and good memories. My prayers are with you all. Paul Hill

Please accept my condolences. I worked with Phil at the VA Regional Office. He was a great guy to work with. I will truly miss him. He always talked about his family.
