Margaret Jeanette Michael Prock passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Providence Ascencion ER, Waco, Texas after complications of a yearlong battle with pulmonary lung fibrosis.

A celebration of Jeanette’s life will be held at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco, on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 2PM to 3PM, with Karen Hicks and Willie McCaig officiating. Visitation with the family will take place prior from 1PM to 2PM.

Jeanette was born May 21, 1948 in Brownwood, Texas.  She was the oldest child of John Ray Michael and Ruth Ella Davis Michael.  She grew up in several communities: Kerens, Hillsboro and Elm Mott.  She was the oldest daughter with seven siblings, plus two half-brothers.

She graduated from Connally High School in 1966.  She soon began the vocational nursing program at Grant-Buie Medical Center in Hillsboro.  She also began writing Bill Joe Prock, Jr, a US Marine in Vietnam, after his mother, whom she was boarding with while attending school, asked her to do so.  The letters turned into romance, love, engagement and marriage.  While she completed the LVN program at Grant-Buie Medical Center on February 16, 1968, love and marriage lured her from taking the required LVN State certification.

Jeanette and Bill were married on March 2, 1968 at the Elm Mott Baptist Church.  The Marines took their little family to California, Virginia, and North Carolina.

Their first daughter, Melissa Ann Prock, was born in 1969 at Camp Pendleton, California.  Missy’s little sister, Jenny Rebecca soon followed in 1971 in Hillsboro, Texas.

After Jeanette and Bill separated in 1978, she and her daughters settled in Elm Mott, Texas where she was near both her family and her mother-in-law’s family, who adored her.

She worked various jobs as a waitress and secretary for Upjohn Health Care, but she soon completed a unit secretary program and began a long career at Providence Hospital.  She was employed at Providence Hospital, later renamed Ascension Providence, from June 1979 to July 2008, participating in the transition from the old hospital on Colcord Avenue to the current location near Highway 6 and Woodway.  She retired in July of 2008.

Jeanette had a strong love of family.  She adored her nieces and nephews.  Two of her greatest loves were born in 1997 – Daniel David Canet and Logan Russell Prock.  Jeanette joked that her daughters tried to kill her by giving her two grandsons just weeks apart after having waited years for grandchildren to arrive.

Before the arrival of her two grandsons, she was blessed with a relationship with Kate Tessman Morris.  Katie became a part of our lives in 1992 while Jenny was her nanny.  She was loved like our own from just a few months old to forever.  She will always be PopPop’s first grandchild.  (Yes, Kate started that title.)

Jeanette enjoyed her retirement, living independently or occasionally with her daughters.  Her final independent residence was in Mexia, Texas where she live near two aunts who were like sisters and two brothers.  Her final months were spent living in Chalk Bluff, Texas.

Jeanette had a true giving, loving heart.  She loved to care for others.  She also loved our various furbabies over the years:  Paisley, Roxie, Daisy and currently, Gunner, Lydia and Odie plus some kitties.

Jeanette loved to country dance and sing Karaoke.  We know she’s in Heaven with her family members having quite the party.

She was preceded in death her father; mother; sisters, Kelly Hawthorne (Kevin), and Linda Stewart (Steve); sisters-in-law, Robi Michael (Larry) and Patty Michael (Richard); half-brother John Ray Michael Jr.; and two grandbabies, Tori and Llandynn Prock.

Jeanette is survived by her children, Missy Prock Canet and Jenny Prock; her grandchildren, Danny Canet and Logan (Amber) Prock; her great-grandchildren, Jasper and Lucas; her brothers, Larry, Wayne, Richard and Terry (Karen) Michael; sister, Julie Baker (Rick Franklin); and half-brother, Jason Leon Michael.

She will be missed by many other relatives and friends.

We would like to make special recognition of Jeanette’s niece Kelly Michael and family friend Karen Hicks for their loving care and support in times of need.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Sorry to read about Jeanette’s passing. Spent a lot of hours with her on 4South solving the world’s problems!
Remembering all our conversations about Country music and dancing at Geneva Hall. Jeanette was always helping the patients and staff. She was a great unit clerk and went the extra mile to get everything accomplished. Jeanette made a big positive difference in people’s lives and you can’t ask for more than that!
