James D. Hall, III, 73, of Waco, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2020.

Service Information: Private funeral service and burial will be held at a later date. Mr. Hall will be available for viewing Friday, May 29, from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m., at Lake Shore Funeral Home.

James D. Hall, III was born August 15, 1946 in Richmond, Virginia to Mr. James D. Hall, Jr. and Mrs. Florine Holmes Hall. His parents’ pride and joy, James was their only child. Shortly thereafter, James and his parents relocated to Texas where he began his formal education in Corsicana. In 1956, during his sixth-grade year, he transferred to the Waco Independent School District and in 1964 graduated from G.W. Carver High School. A fiercely talented student, James was active in football, baseball, and band throughout his high school years. A proud alumnus, James often served on reunion committees, working to keep the school spirit alive and former students connected. Subsequently, he pursued two years of college at Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas.

Early in life, James professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Waco, Texas. He diligently served his Father and remained a faithful member well into adulthood.

In 1967, James joined the United States Army. He served in the 101st Airborne Division, hailed the most “deployed and recognized Division” by and in the U. S. Army. James served during the Vietnam War. Due to his bravery, commendable action, and wounds received by enemy fire during the battle in A Shau Valley, James received three Purple Hearts within a nine-month time span. Additionally, he received a Bronze Star Medal with a V for valor due to his heroism and extended time in the line of duty.

On September 14, 1974, James, lovingly referred to as Hall,was joined in marriage to Miss Carolyn McLennan. To this union, their one and only child, Candice Estena Hall, was born on Mother’s Day, 1980.

After his honorable discharge from the Armed Forces,James returned to Waco, Texas. Until his retirement in November of 2002,he served the United States Postal Service as a faithful employee for 30 years.

James’ earthly endeavors ended in the early morning hours of May 25, 2020 at Ridgecrest Retirement Center in Waco, Texas. He was preceded in death by his loving parents who affectionately referred to him as Junior.

James is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn Hall of Waco, Texas; and daughter, Candice (Joseph) Williams of Sachse, Texas. His memory is also cherished by his four grandchildren, Eric Grandy, Jr. “EJ,” Chase Grandy, Jacobie Williams, and Triniti Williams, all of Sachse, Texas; four aunts, Veora Waller, Ethel “Eckie” Easter both of Richmond, Virginia; Maurine Long, and Annie Ruth Hall both of Waco, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

I’m so sorry to hear about Junior Hall’s passing. Whenever he came to Richmond, he and I always spent some quality time together. I will never forget going to Texas with him and Aunt Retha when I was 10 years old. He was a special cousin and I will never forget him..
