James Allan FitzGerald, (Jim), 77, of Waco, passed away at a local nursing home surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 after a short battle with cancer.

Memorial Service: 10AM Monday, January 5th at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel with Ernie Christie officiating. Jim requested that his body be cremated.

Jim was born October 21, 1937 in Tracy, California to Duncan FitzGerald and Ginger Ferguson. He loved bird hunting, fishing, target practice and dancing, but what he loved the most was his adoring wife, Eva, who tirelessly and lovingly took care of him when his health failed.  He worked as a mechanical engineer for Holiday Hammond and Mercury Tool and Machine.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brother Duncan FitzGerald.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years of marriage, daughters Tracey Trevino Berlinguette and husband, Luc; Kierin Johnson and husband, Brad; Lisa Ready and husband Lex; and son, Damon Gascamp. Grandsons, Evan Ross and wife Julia; and Rylan Haecker;  granddaughter, Amanda Nash and husband Justin; and great-granddaughter, Annabelle.

The family appreciates the Scott & White nursing staff for their caring and concern during his stay.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name to the American Cancer Society.

We hope he did not suffer very long. And We are never ready to let them go, but GOD knows what’s best. May GOD be with each of you for the days/weeks/months/years to come. Remember all of the good/fun times each of you had with Jim, and GOD will help you through this. GOD bless each of you. In Christian love, Ronny/Janet Bredemeyer

Condolence from Lee Gamma on January 22nd, 2015 9:31 am

Dear Eva & Family: I was so sorry to hear of Jim’s death. We had been emailing each other about our 60th high school reunion next August. He said he’d be flying out with his granddaughter since Eva didn’t like to fly anymore. We’ll miss him. He was pretty faithful, only missing a couple times because of back problems. We didn’t always agree politically but could have civil conversations about the disagreements. He had a great love for you Eva, as well as his family, so I’m sure you’re going to miss him.

Sadly, Lee Gamma (Unaliyi Jim – our high school motto for friendship)

Condolence from Sandi Harris Adair on January 23rd, 2015 12:38 am

Dear Eva and family,
My sincere condolences to you in the loss of Jim. We had fun emailing back and forth, and he did say he was looking forward to our 60th high school reunion. I let our high school group know of his passing – we are all still a pretty tight group and try to keep in touch. I hope you and the family will stay strong and enjoy your happy memories. That was truly a lovely video tribute you made to Jim.
Fondly, Sandi Adair
