Doris Mae Ricks, 88, of Waco, passed away Friday, March 26, 2021 at Providence Hospice Place in Waco
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 29, at Lake Shore Funeral Home
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at Lake Shore Funeral Home with Dr. Grear Howard officiating
Burial: Waco Memorial Park
Our strong, fun-loving, always optimistic mother, Doris Ricks, joined her husband of 54 years in heaven Friday, March 26, 2021. She leaves her two sons and wives; Marshall and Debbie and Warren and Linda to carry on the fun to her grandchildren, Brad, Melinda, Matt and Grayson; and great-grandchildren, Amberly, Madison, Charlotte, Logan, Avery, Jacob and Nena.
Doris was born in Shawano, Wisconsin on October 11, 1937 with a sense of adventure. After growing up on a dairy farm, she hopped on a train to Washington D.C. to work for the FBI. After a few dates with a handsome, strong army man, she flew to Texas to marry Homer Lewis Ricks in 1954. Her adventure continued when their sons, Marshall and Warren joined the family. Doris loved being a boy mom. She became active in their cub scout troops being a cub scout leader for several years. After a few years as a teacher with MHMR she worked for Citizens Fidelity Insurance. Upon retirement, Doris helped Homer in the garden growing organic tomatoes, green beans, corn, okra, black eyed peas, cantaloupe and more. In her spare time, Doris loved to quilt and made beautiful, hand stitched quilts for her family. Her love, spunk and tenacity will be missed.

Condolences for the family of “Doris Mae Ricks”
Doris, a very sweet, generous lady. My husband (deceased 2010) worked with her at Citizen’s Fidelity in Waco. I remember those wonderful tomatoes and how much she loved life.
There was no better friend ever than Doris. She jokingly called herself my “second mother,” and it was true. She and Homer were true blue friends to my parents, and were there during my dad’s last illness. There was nothing Doris wouldn’t do for another person. Not only did she help my family, but for years she took care of her elderly next door neighbor as if that lady was her own mother. She was devoted to her husband and her sons and family and friends and neighbors and everyone she knew. Doris never met a stranger; everyone was her friend. A native of Wisconsin, she loved her Green Bay Packers and “Bert” Starr, as she called him. Doris was kind, generous, loving and had a great sense of humor. I will always miss her — and her laughter and hugs. The world is a much sadder place without Doris Ricks in it. Marshall and Warren, I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom loved you and your families to the moon and back.
Dear Warren and Linda, Marshall and Debbie and Families,
We are grieving with you as you and yours go through these hard days of loss. We are so grateful to have known your parents, and to know all of you.
Our prayer is that you will each experience the tender mercies that God gives every morning of each new day. May His love be your comfort and your peace in the days ahead. We know Doris could not have been prouder of her sons and their families. You all are her beautiful legacy.

I am writing to celebrate Doris and Homer! I was blessed
To be their nurse at Providence Clinics. They would come into clinic smiling and friendly with Doris always telling me how things should be done. Grew the finest sweet corn every year, we would call it corn frenzy when we found ourselves scraping together as much cash as we could to buy as much corn as possible! Thanks for sharing Homer and Doris with me, love and Peace! Dawn Tucker
