Melbin “Dean” Priddy, 82, of Eddy, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017.
Funeral Service: 1p.m. Wednesday, December 27, at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum.
No visitation is planned.
Dean was born July 20, 1935 in Itasca to William Jasper Priddy and Sudie Mildred Parker Priddy. Growing up quickly during tough economic times, Dean let little time go by before leaving Itasca to join the Air Force to see the world. Among the many places he was assigned, French Morocco was his favorite. He bought a Norton motorcycle and stirred up a great deal of North African dust. He also wasted no time pursuing the love of his life, Sue, to marry and start a family. After eight years in the service, Dean answered his true calling to serve others through a life in law enforcement. With stints at the Waco Police Department, U.S. Marshal’s Service, McLennan County Sheriff’s Office and Lorena Police Department, his proudest achievement was being appointed Chief of Police which closed the chapter on a 40 year career to a profession he loved so much. Always seeking knowledge, Dean received his Associates’ Degree at McLennan Community College and later his Bachelor of Sciences degree in Criminal Justice, all the while serving the community. Dean was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a Sunday school teacher, an ordained deacon at the First Baptist Church in Whitney and his final place of worship at Bruceville Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; and his grandson, Kenneth Wagner.
Dean is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sue Priddy of Eddy; daughter, Beverly Wagner of Eddy; sons, Mickey Priddy and wife, Cilia and Wesley Priddy and wife, Erika all of Cedar Park; grandchildren, Audrey, Jared, Erin, Hannah, Rebekah, Mason and Marcelina; four great-grandchildren, Felix, Owen, Ciara and Ashley; and a host of other relatives.
The family would like to acknowledge a special thank you to the Waco Police Association, Providence Hospice and Westview Manor.

I have considered his two sons Mickey & Wes as an extension to our family. I had the pleasure of meeting and sitting with Mr. and Mrs.Priddy at a friends wedding many years ago. I remember his wonderful sense of humor which was followed with a few hours of laughter during the reception. They made the evening very delightful. I pray for strength for his families may he Rest In Peace. Sass

Dean was a friend, and mentor. Always there with advice I could rely on. Time and illness took his life, but not our memories of him…May God continue to bless the Priddy Family, during this time of sorrow.

The obituary posted above tells me of the depth of the mans faith & public service, while my experiences with you impressed upon me a superb example of moral dedication you exemplified daily. Although I never met your father, its apparent to me that both gods grace and his legacy will continue to live on in you. I admire him, and thank you, for sharing that with me. Wishing continued blessings upon you & yours.
I knew Dean for 40 years. Served with him at the Waco Police Dept., Mclennan County Sheriff Dept.. Great man, good friend. My prayers and thoughts for Sue and family.

Dean, your humor will never be forgotten. The memories we shared as partners in the night shift car will always keep me laughing and they will always make me think of the good times. We always had each other’s back through the good and bad times . My condolences to Sue and the family. You fought the good fight and you will not be forgotten. Rest In Peace my brother.
