Carolyn Slocum Ellis,73, passed away Monday September 20, 2021 at Woodland Springs Nursing Home in Waco, Texas.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 2 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel.

Carolyn was born April 6, 1948 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania to Scott and Iva Slocum.

Her hobbies were flower gardening, antique collecting, sewing/quilting, Baylor Bear Football and spoiling her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Lou Slocum Gaddie.

Carolyn had suffered chronic health conditions for several years. In 1997 she was diagnosed with Scleroderma. The life expectancy was grim, but she had more life to live and grandchildren to care for. She was determined to win and she did. Her persevering and independent nature compelled her to courageously fight these conditions without complaint or inconveniencing those around her. In recent years, she began to suffer from dementia (memory loss). Even during memory loss, she passionately fought for the memories. She was a believer and is currently walking the streets of gold. The family will truly miss her.

She leaves behind two siblings, Sandra Pyles and Michael Slocum; two children, Wesley Phipps and Kimberly Rinkevich; eleven grandchildren, Baily Williams, Morgan Broach, Carly Cox, Senayt Rinkevich, Luke Phipps, Carson Cox, Desiree Cox, Allula Teka, Selam Rinkevich, Marilee Howell, and Noah Kate Rinkevich; three great grandchildren, Blythe Broach, Beauman Broach, and Joseph Ybanez.

Condolence from Julie Lyssy on October 2nd, 2021 9:48 am

I have very fond memories of Carolyn.. She was my cousin, my friend, and I loved her very much. In my younger years I would visit her on weekends when her children were grown, and we had so much fun together. She had a knack for decorating, and she gave me great ideas for my home. I even thought we looked like sisters!. Even though I haven’t seen Carolyn in a good while, we have visited by phone, and we always catch right up where we left off. Carolyn was a very caring, kind, giving, positive, fun person and always smiling. She loved all her family very much ! I know God has opened his arms for her in his kingdom. I will miss her dearly!
