William Robert Pruitt

Pruitt(1)

William “Bill” Robert Pruitt, affectionately known as the Stardust Cowboy, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 in Waco. He was born on April 8, 1944, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to Clarence and Ruby Pruitt.

A proud veteran, Bill served in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years before continuing his life’s journey filled with music, good food, and even better company. He was a master of chili cook-offs and barbecue brisket, always ready with a guitar in hand and a song to share. His love for music and storytelling made him the heart of any gathering and will forever be remembered by those who knew him best.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved son, Bobby Pruitt, whom he missed every day.

He is survived by his sons, Scott Pruitt (Kim) and Shane Pruitt (Libbie); his daughter-in-law, Tanya Pruitt; and his cherished grandchildren, Erin Coulter (Nick), Daven Pruitt, Jared Pruitt, Hannah Pruitt, Allie Lambert (Brody), Emilianna Griffith (Aaron), and Keaghan Pruitt. He also leaves behind his nephews David Mason (Kelli), Jeff Mason, and Anthony Mason; brother, Jerry Pruitt, and a host of family and friends who will deeply miss his warmth, humor, and music.
Bill’s legacy lives on in the songs he played, the meals he lovingly prepared, and the love he shared with those around him. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is with Jesus and Bobby strumming his guitar, sharing stories, and cooking up something unforgettable.

A special thank you to Providence Hospice for their loving care during his last days.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you enjoy a good meal, play your favorite song, and remember Bill with a smile.
