Wayne Hammermeister

H

Wayne Hammermeister, 68, of Waco, passed away on August 22, 2021.

Memorial Visitation: 6-8 PM Friday, August 27 at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco.

Wayne was born November 29, 1952 to Donald and Agnes Hammermeister. Wayne was a man of faith who loved his Lord and Savior first a foremost with Vicky, the love of his life for over 50 years, a very close second. He loved, supported, and was involved with his kids and grandkids in every way possible. Wayne treated friends of his kids and grandkids like they were his own and would drop everything to lend a hand at any time. Wayne was proud, hardworking, and courageous and expected that same effort from those he loved, no exceptions. He was one of the strongest men you could ever meet physically, mentally, and spiritually. He expected his family and friends to work hard and love each other and the Lord as hard as he did which was almost impossible. Wayne was a man who you just wanted to make proud and always wanted in your corner. Once he was your friend, he was your friend for life no matter what. Wayne loved and served his country in the Airforce and Navy Reserves, was great pilot who loved to fly, but most of all loved his horses and was a cowboy in the truest sense of the word. He was loved by many, influenced more than can be counted, and will be truly missed.

He was preceded in death by father, Don Hammermeister; sister, Sandy Hatcher; and brother, Joe Hammermeister.

Survivors include wife, Vicky Hammermeister; daughter, Dawn Dulus and husband Jon; son, Greg Hammermeister and wife Courtney; grandchildren, Tylor, Taryn, Kendyl, Weston, Parker, and Wells; mother, Agnes Hammermeister; brother, Ed Forbes; and many other relatives.

Place of Service: Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel , 5201 Steinbeck Bend; Waco, TX 76708

  3. To the precious family of Wayne Hammermeister:
It was my privilege to have Wayne in my life for so many years, and although he was not blood – I never thought of him as anyone other than my cousin. I have never known anyone like Wayne. It was apparent in everything he said and did that he was a Christian and that he adored his family. Wayne was such a good husband, father and grandfather. He was a kind and gentle man – with a laugh that I loved.
I thank God for the blessing of having had Wayne as a member of my family and as my friend.
He will be forever missed. May God grant peace and comfort to Vicky and her wonderful children and grandchildren.

I first knew Wayne as the outstanding pilot that he was, but knowing him as a Brother in Christ was far more important. His desire to faithfully lead others to the Lord mattered to me. I will miss him, but I know it’s nothing compared to the way his family must be feeling. I’m so sorry for your loss.

  5. I worked with Wayne at Farm Bureau. He was one of the sweetest men you’d ever meet. May God hold you close and give you comfort.

  6. My condolences to his loved ones. May he rest in peace.

  11. Vicky, I am so terribly, terribly sorry to hear about Wayne. He and I spoke by phone for about 20-30 minutes a little over 3 weeks ago for the first time in a Long while. What a great pleasure that was for me and now that he’s gone, it obviously breaks my heart and makes me so sad for not only your loss but Our loss too. It does hurt. He’ll never ever be forgotten. Even though it doesn’t seem so, and yet it will take tremendous effort and a lot of time, especially for you as well as all of us, you will get through this. No, it will not be easy but you can and you will get through this. Continue to Believe and have Faith. – Love You, Jamey L. Davis.

  17. Wayne was not only my friend, he graciously step in as a father figure to me. He put his arms around my family and let us know, Always we were an extension of his own family. He’s been there for us and for me, through many challenges. We shared so many conversations through the short 10 years of our friendship with one another. His love of Our Lord helped me find my own faith and ultimately lead me closer to Christ, his leadership as a teacher of the word, facilitated my accepting Christ as my Lord and Savior. He inspired me to be baptized with my daughter, who had also accepted Christ as her Savior. For me that was his BIGGEST gift. Our trail rides together my dear, dear friend will never be the same, but you will be remembered on everyone of them I take from now until we meet again in the heavens. Thank you , FRIEND for all you inspired, loved, challenged, and laughed with me and my family through the years. Vicky, WE LOVE YOU, know that you have Family extended from your beautiful children and grandchildren, that are here for you, ANYTIME – DAY OR NIGHT. I pray for your peace, for God to shower you with his grace and give your heart rest from the hurt in the lose of Wayne. Sending you ALL Our LOVE!!!

I got to know Wayne and Vicky from 1998-2018 as we all worked in the ministry of StoneGate Community Church. Also, we caught each other at grandchildren’s ball games. Wayne had cowboy class and interacted with honesty, gentleness, and a desire to know others. He was also the real deal as a strong and loving man projecting his spiritual faith not as a badge but that of an identity to our world for both strength and peace. He was truly a blessing to me and many others in our community. My prayer goes out to Vicky, Dawn, Greg and all the rest of the family we’ve heard so much about. Wayne is missed but his influence through our Lord will be forever. God Bless, Keith M. Hankins

  21. Wayne was someone I not only liked, but also respected. He was a man and a man of God, a great example that a Christian isn’t some milktoast that you can ignore. He was not just a friend, but an example of the type of man I aspire to be. Wayne I’ll miss you, but know that I will see you again when I get to Heaven.
Vicky we are here for you.
