Walter Lee “Bubba” Green

Green 1

Walter Lee “Bubba” Green, 68, ventured on to a new eternity Saturday evening, February 4, 2017.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held Saturday, February 18th in the Reception Center at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, Waco.

Bubba was born October 5, 1948 to Edward Earl ‘Eddie” Green and Sarah Frances Green. His first formative years were in Blackland, Texas, later moving to North Waco where he attended Cedar Ridge Elementary, North Junior High, and Waco High School. Bubba was a star football player and played in the band.

After his older brother Robert was KIA in Viet Nam, Bubba moved to Lansing, Michigan in 1968 & worked for General Motors for a brief time. Returning to Texas a year later, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Alicia, beginning their life together as one. Daughter Heather was born in 1972, followed by daughter Holly in 1973.
While in High School, both Bubba and his brother Robert raced dirt track cars at Heart of Texas Speedway. Bubba resumed his racing in 1971, where he was a track standout and leader, holding many track records, some of which stand to date. He was a Mason and Shriner.
Bubba worked many years for General Tire and then Ciba Vision which led him to Atlanta, Georgia in 1992. Both Bubba & Alicia have had a beautiful life together and they enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle on trips to the North Georgia mountains.
Bubba loved the dirt and often quoted “dirt is for racing, everything else is for getting there”. He loved the outdoors, enjoying fishing, hunting and shooting. But mostly he loved his wife, daughters, family and friends. Every moment spent with his grandchildren was treasured. He was bigger than life, hence their pet name for him “Biggs.” Bubba was quite the prankster, keeping everyone on their toes. Known for his sage advice, warm heart, and famous words, “Here’s the deal”…. Bubba was one very loving extraordinary man who never met a stranger and could always be counted on when there was a need. A great husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert and daughter Heather.
He is survived by wife Alicia of Marietta GA, daughter Holly Green-Ulmer, husband Shannon, and grand children Ansley and Greyson of Frisco TX, sister Marcy Green White and husband Tony of Bruceville TX, sister Danelia “Dee” Miller of Bellmead TX, nephew Joel Wood and family of Hoen TX, niece Mariah Wood Loper and family of Eddy TX. (Adoptive brother DeWayne Svoboda and family of Lorena, TX), and numerous friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations to assist with hospital bills can be made to benefit his wife, Alicia Green.

Condolence Messages

  1. Dear Alicia…My name is Teresa Weathersbee Place Weber and I knew your husband, Bubba, back in 1966 and 1967 while in high school. I attended Richfield but at the time I was dating David Place, whom I later married. I would go with David over to Bubba’s house. We would stay there for hours as the guys visited usually talking about cars or we would be in the garage visiting as they overhauled an engine. David and I may have double dated with you and Bubba back then. Bubba was a good friend to David. I was pleasantly surprised to read that Bubba was a star football player and played in the band. Naturally, the only thing I had on my mind was just being with David. May Jesus Christ comfort you and your family during this difficult time.
