Wallace J. Pattengill, 91, of Waco, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 at his home in Waco
Memorial Visitation: 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Lake Shore Funeral Home
Wallace Pattengill was a great and beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a dear friend to many. He served in the Navy during the Korean War on both the U.S.S. Iowa and the U.S.S. Missouri Battleships. In school, he played basketball and worked with his father setting up and repairing tanks in Kansas oilfields. After the war he worked in various Financial services and later at Centex Sports Cards, First Pawn & Loan and Fred & Wally’s Sports Pub.
Wally was also a long-time member of the Northwest Waco Optimist Club. He loved Sports and playing Poker and enjoyed books and had many hobbies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Harry Pattengill; his brothers, Maurice and Merle Pattengill; his loving wife, Sally; and beloved daughter, Janell Pattengill-Rhyne.
Survivors include his sister, Gloria Hart of Manhattan, Kansas; his son, Barry and Barry’s wife, Rebecca and their daughter, Victoria Ashby and son, Mark Pattengill and his wife, Kristina; Janell’s daughter, Rachel Small and her husband, Cory and their daughter, Lily Marie; and his other great-grandchildren, Brenna Ashby and Nicholas Ashby; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Wally’s memory.

Condolences for the family of “Wallace James Pattengill”
I am sadden by the loss of Wally. He had bid in many of my coin and sport auctions. We basically knew each other through mail. I remember the times when he said that item went for way below its value and he would add to the bid. He was very generous and knew a lot about baseball cards. May he rest in peace.
Wally we had some great times, especially following Scott around the baseball parks. I will miss you and see you on the other side.
What a dear neighbor for 40+ years! Our deepest sympathies to Barry and family.

I’ve never met anyone who didn’t like Wally. Heaven has gained another angel who is now rejoicing with Sally, Janell and other loved ones. Wally you will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace my friend

I had the pleasure of being an acquaintance of Wally’s. He was always such a nice person! Truly one of the good guys! He will me missed by many!

I have very fond memories of Uncle Wally and Aunt Sally. The summer I turned 10 years old, (in 1982) my parents let me fly on an airplane, by myself, to Texas (from Kansas). Barry picked me up at the airport and drove me to Waco to stay with Sally & Wally for a week. It was a GREAT time and I was able to return for another week the following summer.
My good neighbor Wally! What a pleasure and gift it has been to know you, as a special friend and neighbor. Thank you for all the sweet memories of you and Buddy! No worries now, you are safely Home.
