Frickerf Mom Obit 2

Virginia Bernadine (Blavat) Fricker passed away peacefully at Ascension Living Providence Village in Waco, August 31, 2022. She was born August 22, 1934 and had just celebrated her 88th birthday. She was the daughter of Benedict and Minnie (Glodowski) Blavat. Virginia was born and raised in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. As a child and then young adult, she lived briefly in Savannah, Illinois and Tucson, Arizona until marriage brought her to Texas in 1969.

Virginia was raised Catholic, and her favorite saint was St. Anthony. She was the second oldest of 5 kids, was a nurse and retired from the VA in Waco, was an avid reader, and one of the best cooks ever. If you were lucky enough to know her, you probably remember her smile, her laugh and her gentle voice.

She had a penchant for instant coffee, a good comedy, puzzles, games, animals, chocolate with nuts, Mexican food and the occasional margarita or beer. With unwavering devotion, she retired to the solitude of Terlingua, Texas alongside her beloved David before returning to Waco for her final years. She enjoyed learning and experimenting with anything new, especially a new exercise, yoga pose or meditation technique.

She was preceded in death by her sister Eleanor Karch, Stevens Point, WI and her brother Arthur (Art) Blavat, Eldridge, Iowa.

Virginia is survived by her husband of 58 years, David Fricker from Waco; five children and their partners and spouses, Victoria Bruce and Mark Haworth in Austin, TX, Mark Fricker and Denise Bain in China Spring, TX, Gwen Fricker in Altai, Russia, Mike and Kelly Fricker in Euless, TX and Paula and Joel Furnace in Golden, CO; sisters, Carlene Blavat of Richfield, OH, Mary Blavat of Stevens Point, WI; brother-in-law Chet Karch of Stevens Point, WI; sister-in-law, Angie Blavat of Eldridge, IA. She is also survived by four beautiful step-grandchildren and numerous great step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

Virginia did not wish for a traditional funeral but instead wanted those of us who remain here on earth to celebrate her life with pinatas and her favorite dish, tacos. We will be having a 1-year Celebration of her beautiful Life on Saturday August 12, 2023 from 12-3 pm at the Masonic Lodge in Crawford, Texas.  Please RSVP at the link below:

Virginia’s request was to have her ashes combined with the love of her life, her husband David.

Online remembrances (especially funny stories) may be expressed to the family by visiting Virginia’s obituary at www.lakeshorefuneralhome.com.

Soar high from the heavens above. When we see a dove, we will think of you and your favorite song La Paloma. God bless you Mom until we meet again.

Memorial donations may be made to Caritas (any location) or the Big Bend Conservancy.
