Tommy Shivers, 86, of China Spring, peacefully passed from this life to be with our Lord on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. A memorial service dedicated to the celebration of his life will be held at 1pm, Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck, Waco, 76708. Tommy, a twin, was born on November 10, 1927 to William Joseph & Rosie Beatrice (Powell) Shivers in Corsicana. After graduation from Corsicana High in 1945, he served our country in Honolulu, HA in the U.S. Army until September, 1947. He also served as Sgt. in the National Guard of the U.S. until 1952.

Tommy never met a stranger and had many friends. He always offered his help to friends and neighbors alike. He had many interests and hobbies, but he was an avid golfer for many years. He also enjoyed membership in the local chapter of the Karem Temple Shriners.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, "Babydoll", Willie B. Shivers Griggs.

He is survived by his former wife, Joan Null of Spring; their daughter, Cindy Shivers of China Spring; Dianne Kylochko of Gholson; Mike Gregory of Chisolm, MN; three brothers, his twin, Billy Dan Shivers of Arlington, Burnett Shivers of Weatherford, and Homer Edwin Shivers and wife Margaret of Alvarado; eight beloved grandchildren, Chuck & Gene Holle, Jessica and Lisa Gardiner, Thomas Robins, Lauren & Claire Lightfoot,and Zachary Ramsey; five precious great-grandchildren Ben, Will, and Taylor Holle, Jasmine Vega, and Jack Thomas Robins; and as well as many nieces, nephews, and their children. Also left behind are Greg & Connie Long, Doug & Denise Long, and David & Reecie Long, as well as their children and grandchildren. Their mother, Norma Long, Tommy’s dear love and friend, preceded him in death in 2010.

  10. Cindy, Tommy was a cheerful man and a mentor to me in my early days as a salesman at Rohan. He will be missed. We will be unable to attend his memorial today, but please know our thoughts and parayers are with you and your family.
