Memorial Service:  Friday July 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Shore Funeral Home

Visitation: Thursday July 2 from 6-8 p.m. Family requests that you come as yourself in casual and comfortable clothes.

Sydney was born May 1, 1952 in Arkansas. He was enlisted as an Engineman in the US Navy also serving in Vietnam. Sydney was a jack-of-all-trades mastering any skill or job he attempted. He smoked the best ribs and brisket you’ve ever tasted and made amazing french toast. Sydney was a member of the HOT American Pool Players Association for 11 years. He was referred to as “Popeye” by his grandchildren. He considered everyone family and was always willing to help those in need. Sydney will be remembered for his giving, stubborn, determined, awry, loving nature.

Sydney was preceded in death by his father, Sydney Hunter, Sr.; step-dad, Clyde McClain; and Uncle Hess.

He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Sheryl Hunter; children, Sheila Hunter, Andy and Sydney Hunter, Lori Hunt and husband Tim, Angela Jenkins and husband Brad, and Heather Eads; 8 grandchildren; mother, Joyce McClain; sister, Joy Gregory and husband, Earl; brother-in-law, John Kitch; special friends, Dale and Teresa Fritz; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family would like to thank the HOT American Pool Association for all of their support during this difficult time.

Donations may be made in Sydney’s name to the Make A Wish Foundation.

It is with a sadden and somber heart we say goodbye. You will be forever missed and never forgotten. U have left us with treasured moments like our first meeting when u snuck up behind me to find out who “was playing the songs of our youth” when I was picking songs on the jukebox. I know ur getting that ol jukebox in heaven’s pool ready for rest us. Rest in peace Ax, we all have been blessed to know you.

I am truly saddened by the news of Ax’s passing. I’ll never forget his jokes or the first time i played him in pool and he used his teeth for the pocket marker.
