Blue Bonnets 1
Susann Perryman Hartgraves was born March 4, 1944, in Gatesville, Texas to Margaret and Verne Perryman. Susie and her 5 sisters, better known as the Perryman 6, grew up on a 1400 acre ranch in Coryell County. Along with her sisters, she helped her father work cattle, sheep, and harvest grain. Growing up on the back of a horse led her to being a natural in her profession. She had much success in the competition arena and was one of the Top Barrel Racers in Texas and surrounding states in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Although Susie won on many different horses, it was she and her famous mare, Missy Motor, that made quite an impact in the rodeo world from 1972-1977. Together this amazing team brought home numerous titles and championships. Years later, Susie still loved to run around local barrel races and give anyone who sat next to her advice whether they wanted it or not.

Susie married the love of her life, John Hartgraves, on June 16, 1979, and together they raised 6 children: Amye Craig, Jimmy Oglesby, Joe Oglesby, Gae Tucker, Jon Kyle Hartgraves, and Steve Hartgraves. They lived 31 amazing years together in Hamilton, until his passing in 2010. Susie was blessed with 22 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Susie dedicated 30 years to her career at TDCJ. She loved shopping for all of her children and grandchildren and going to many of their events. Nothing made her happier than getting to watch all of them succeed in whatever it was they loved doing. Susie was the happiest when getting to travel with John and her family to Ruidoso, trips to the lake or South Padre Island, and always trying to make a stop in San Antonio when she could fit it in the itinerary. She loved animals and spent many hours spoiling her pets, especially her dog Dolly, her sidekick for the last 6 years.

Susie is survived by her daughter, Amye Craig; sons Jimmy and his wife Becky Oglesby, and Joe Oglesby; step-sons, Jon Kyle Hartgraves, and Steve and his wife Karen Hartgraves; sisters Dixie Mitchell, Mary Nolen, and Kerry Courtney; son-in-law, Steven Tucker; grandchildren, Stephen Oglesby, Julie Susann Black, Kameron Mantell, Lariat Gartman, Staci Stanley, Lane Susann Gartman, Katherine Staton, Joesi Oglesby, Jesse Oglesby, Chance Oglesby, Jace Oglesby, Jenna Oglesby, Janna Whitehead, Houston Tucker, Brooke Tucker, Shelby Oglesby, Kashley Oglesby, John Bryan Hartgraves, Eric Hartgraves, Heidi Kay Hartgraves, Graham Hartgraves, and Abigail Hartgraves; as well as many, many great-grandchildren.
