Steve McDaniel, 61, passed away suddenly November 22, 2021, at his home in Hewitt, TX. Steve was the husband of Don McDaniel. They shared over 13 years together and adopted their son James in 2019.
Memorial service will be 2 pm Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Lake Shore Funeral Home 5201 Steinbeck Bend Dr, Waco.
Steve was born in Waco, TX, he was the son of Edward and Oneta Girnus. Steve graduated from University High School in 1979 and went on to have a successful career in the food and medical industry.
Steve loved the holidays, especially Christmas, where he enjoyed decorating and bringing any place he went to life with the joy of the holidays. We know Steve is smiling down on us as we all came together during this special time of year. Steve will be remembered for his kind and caring heart, where he never met a stranger and was never too busy to help a friend in need.
Steve was an amazing father figure, not just to James, but to all the children he helped raise and care for throughout his life. From working at the Methodist Home to taking on a fatherly roll whenever it was needed without question or complaint.
Steve is survived by his husband, Don; their son, James; and several nieces and nephews who he helped raise as his own. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Oneta; and brothers, Gary, Edward, and Jerry.

Condolences for the family of “Steve McDaniel”
Steve and I have been true friends for over 20 years. We did some crazy stuff together and then, we did more, less crazy stuff. He was a unique man. I’ve never imagined my life without “a” Steve in it! I’d like to think of you resting in peace but it wouldn’t hurt my feelings to imagine you “shaking” things up!! You, my friend have created a big void in many lives.
Steve was a wonderful boss, I worked with him at Westview Manor in McGregor lost contact with him for a minute and than ran into him and James at Wal-Mart in Hewitt last Saturday. You will be missed

What wonderful person, though we only knew each other for a short while we became fast friends. Working with him was a joy, he had a way of seeing the good in everyone and every situation. When we first met we both knew it was not by chance, but by devine order,we just clicked.
Fly high my friend, into the arms of our Lord Jesus.
May the Lord give comfort to his family and friends, until they meet again.

Our sweet, Uncle Steve, we were lucky the day you came into our lives. Your existence couldn’t have come at a better time for our family. Plus you brought us your beautiful niece, Amber, gifting us another Girnus to love. For good times and bad times, you were there to walk with us through grief and many happy moments. You will be missed more than I can express. Rest in Love.
While I did not know Steve long and mostly from professional aspect, I know him as a warm hearted, wonderful individual. He was always willing to help, and always with a smile. He was very much appreciated by leadership, and the various staff across all departments at the hospital. He will be missed.
I remember when we first met. He was a kind man. I miss our talks at work. I miss his Wednesday texts as well. Fly high my friend. Never to be forgotten. Til we meet again my friend.
Steve was a kind-hearted, sweet soul who loved his family dearly. Heaven got another amazing Angel. He will be missed.

We miss you our Love. James is finally playing his vr game and is loving every bit of it. He is so funny to watch. I got your tree up (that is a heavy sucker) we are going to decorate the house just the way you want it. We will be ok, it will just take us some time to adjust. I am happy you are home with everyone else. Until we meet again, I love you!
