Sherman B. Steward, 92, of Waco, passed away Friday, December 30th at a local hospital. Funeral services will be 1PM Thursday, January 5th at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online Guest Book at www.LakeShoreFuneralHome.com.

Sherman was born on September 1, 1919, eldest son of 15 children to Pearlie (Carter) and Sherman Steward. Sr. The family lived in a rural area, north of Waco near the Erath Community in the Brazos River bottom. Early years were spent plowing, chopping cotton, hunting and fishing. Later in life, Sherman shouldered the responsibility of helping raise his brothers and sisters and keeping his family together, safe and happy.

A large part of his life, beginning in 1947, was spent working for the Walter Lacy, Jr. family. For over 50 years, Sherman became an instrumental part of the family doing his part to raise the five Lacy children. While doing his job, he was always ready and eager to help. Sherman

Uncle Sherman was the first person to show me a live fish,he use to scare me with the worms before he baited them on the hook. Most of all I remember that he cooked the best fried fish and barbecue and I looked forward to going to he and Aunt Berthas house for the weekend to spend with Big Mama.He had my baby pics on side of their bed on a table Nd I use to ask for themwheni got older and of course he’d say no.But this was a dear loving ,cuddling that bit my cheeks everytime he saw me,even as ibwcame a teenager. He will be greatly missed along with the rest of whom passed on.We love you Uncle Jab
