Shae Machelle Gipson-Mervyn was born to Mona Machelle and James (Jimbo) Franklin Gipson on July 19th, 1992 in Waco, Texas. Shae was a beautiful child who appeared to be doing well at first, but it soon became apparent she was unable to meet development milestones, and that she would continue to face many health struggles and adversity from an early age.  Shae was diagnosed with Rett’s Syndrome and due to her special needs, Shae began her school career at age three at Spring Valley Elementary. She was blessed with many loving and attentive staff and caretakers, but what stood out the most was Shae’s beloved bus rides with Miss Brenda, who already knew Shae and her family well. Around the same time in December of 1993, her mom met Thomas Shawn Mervyn who would eventually fill the role of Shae’s Dad.  Tom quickly fell in love with both Mona and Shae’s hearts and the family of three made a happy home together at their Old Bethany Road residence in Moody where they continued to live happily for the next nine years. During this time Shae transferred to Bruceville-Eddy Elementary where she was once again blessed with adoring bus drivers, Dorothy and Ileen, and teachers, Carla and Suzee, all whom Shae loved.  At the age of seven, Shae received an even larger blessing when Mona and Tom welcomed her first loving sister, Alexis Nichole Mervyn to the family. Mona and Tom then decided to buy the growing family a home in Woodway, Texas.  The new residence fit their family perfectly, and Shae even had her own living quarters near the kitchen, which became essential not only for her medical needs, but also allowed her to be in the heart of the home and center to the family.  Along with the move to Woodway, Shae transferred to Midway Middle School where she again rode the bus with Miss Brenda, Mr. and Mrs. Herman, and her beloved teacher, Chris. Additional changes came when Shae’s circle of loved ones grew again in 2004 with the birth of her second adoring sister Rheannon Rose Mervyn.  At 15, Shae graduated to Midway High school where she continued to ride the bus with Mr. and Mrs Herman, Leilani and Donna until she eventually graduated from Midway in 2014. Throughout her life Shae enjoyed traveling and the outdoors. She took trips to Disney with her beloved NeNe and Paw Paw, Mom, Dad and Lexi. She also went to California to visit her Uncle Ronnie with Mom, Dad, and Lexi and was able to visit Disney and Venice Beach in California.   Despite the complications and instability of being away from and home, Shae greatly enjoyed a trip to San Antonio with Mom and Dad, where Mom would attend a continuing education and her Dad took her to Sea World. Shae always loved the pool and the beach, and when she could no longer travel to see it, Mona brought it to her in the form of bath time. Shae was a blessing to everyone that knew her and to those that knew her well, their lives were enriched significantly. Her mother, father, grandmother, two sisters, dozens of aunts, uncles and cousins, as well countless caretakers are greatly missing the angel on Earth that was Shae.

A Message from Mona

I would first like to thank our awesome family for all the support they have given us along the way, beginning with NeNe for being Shae’s pseudo-mom when I was too tired from the sleepless nights that accompanied being a mom to Shae. I would like to secondly thank Tom for stepping in to be Shae’s Dad and caring for Shae and the whole family emotionally, spiritually, and in every way, making Shae his own. Thank you to Lexi for always wanting her to dress well (according to NeNe) and for being so strong when needed, to Rheannon for always giving Shae her hugs and positivity, to Paw Paw for helping NeNe along the way.  Thank you to all aunts, uncles, cousins. We are grateful for all of Shae’s dedicated caregivers beginning with the most recent; NeNe, Rusti, Bridget, Tonnye, Kathalene, Malissa, Brittany, Frances, Olivia, Jocelyn, Amanda K, Amanda W, Michelle, Julie, Kendall, Syan, Chelsea Blonde, Chelsea Brown, Samantha, Maggie, Faith, Megan, Summer, Sheri, Sheri P, Marriah, Mary, Jalon, Jumoke, Shantel, and Leilani and countless others.
Through caring for Shae and with much research and spiritual practice, I have learned a lot about nutrition and discovered that Shae needed basic nutrition to thrive. There were many signs along the way that I was unable to read early on while I relied on the medical practice to interpret Shae’s health and well-being for me.  As a mother, I have since learned that it is important to pay attention to life’s vibrations. The body thrives in a high vibrational state. Shae taught me all these things. Shae taught me at the age of 50 to be a more nutritionally focused mom. Shae had a very special gift. She could feel vibration and energy but it was not until the release of dozens of pharmaceutical medications she was on that we could appreciate this lesson.
If I could speak for Shae one last time, I know she would request that we all live in the best peace, health, and harmony as we can, as pain free as possible and to treasure every moment spent with the people you love. Shae taught us all to do our best to work as a team, because sometimes it becomes hard to take care of family alone.
May God bless each and every one of you for everything you’ve ever done to help Shae.-Mona
