Scott Leigh Eggers, age 63, of Waco Texas, passed away on July 29, 2021 as a result of complications of COVID-19. A memorial service will be held September 12. 2021 at 3:30pm at Park Lake Drive Baptist Church, Waco Texas.

Scott was born in Evergreen Park, Illinois on June 7 1958 to Arleigh and Lillian (Echols) Eggers. He grew up in Littleton, Colorado and graduated from Denver Lutheran High School in 1976. A lifelong patriot, Scott joined the Army in 1976 and served with distinction as a tanker in Germany and on Ft. Hood from 1976 to 1982. He attended Texas A&M University, and worked at Safeway where he met and married Dee Dee. Scott moved to Waco in 2008 and spent many years serving the Baylor University and McLennan County Community College communities as the campus bookstore manager. Scott was an avid train enthusiast and loved role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, but participating in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts with his son Andy (often with his wife Dee Dee at his side) was by far his favorite pastime.

Almost everyone who knew Scott described him as the kindest soul they had ever met. He was a soft spoken, private man and preferred to allow others take the spotlight. He was a great listener, a trusted confidant, and bearer of great wisdom. He was always willing to help out and be there for anyone, anytime. But as good a friend as Scott was to his coworkers, fellow Scouters, members of his church community, and everyone else he met, he was an even better husband and father — he lived for Dee Dee and Andy and loved them with a selfless devotion that never wavered. Scott’s most important identity, however, was that of follower of Jesus Christ — in his last post on Facebook, made the day before his death, Scott entrusted himself and his family to God’s will and described himself as the Lord’s child and His servant.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish Scott’s memory are his wife of 29 years Diann, his son Andrew, his sisters Joy Hemby and Gail (John) Breece, and a vast community of friends.

Condolence from Sharon Green on September 7th, 2021 8:20 pm

I worked with Scott at Safeway and from that time period on, he was a great friend. He would do anything for anyone and he always would talk about his wife Dee Dee and son Andy. He was a great guy and a great friend. He will be truly missed but I know he is no longer in pain and rejoicing with the Lord. Praying for Dee Dee and Andy.

I met Scott while attending Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado. Jeff, Dave, Kirk, Rick and i use to play D&D with Scott on weekends and we’d have such a great time. Scott was indeed a terrific person, as kind as could be and im sure sorely missed. I don’t know why i thought of him today, but i did and i read of his passing. My prayers go out to his wife and son and to his family.
