Roy Don Durrence

Roy Durrence

Roy Don Durrence, 52, of Crawford, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at his home, with his wife by his side.

Memorial Service: 1 PM, Saturday, January 23rd at Bible Way Church located at 2800 Gurley, Waco, TX 76711, with Pastor David Arnett officiating.

Roy was born in Waco to Clifford and Martha Durrence on February 28, 1963. Roy was a man who looked forward to the simple things in life such as a good domino game, visiting with family and friends, listening to some good blue grass or country gospel music, or taking his girls to the “fishing hole” for a day just being together. He usually had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. His dad says that he felt like Roy had a knack for operating machinery and was so proud of him and his ability to do most anything he set his mind to. He always had a project going. He loved to work with wood and he made homemade cigar box guitars as a hobby. Roy was a man of faith and loved sharing Christ with others. He valued his friends and family. When he married Kathy, the love of his life, he welcomed two daughters, Krista and Bailey, into his heart as well. When his granddaughter, DaShiya was born, his heart grew bigger still. She was the apple of his eye and brought a smile to his face each day.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha; and grandparents, Leroy and Idel Durrence and Lee and Frankie Jones.

Roy is survived by his wife of nine years, Katherine Durrence; granddaughter, DaShiya Jewel Charity; step-daughters, Krista Millsaps and Bailey Snow; father, Clifford Durrence; father and mother in law, Kenneth and Darlene Shaw; sister, Leesa Loftis and husband Bo; sisters and brothers in law, Terry Langley and husband Jason, Daniel Shaw and wife Rhonda, Mandy Shaw and Ruth Ann Casey; and numerous other relatives and friends.

We would like to acknowledge Providence Hospice for the special care they gave to Roy.

The family requests no flowers, please. Memorial contributions may be made directly to the family.

Condolence Messages

  1. Thinking of you all at this time. I believe he was a good man who loved his family. Praying for you all.

  2. So sorry for your loss.

  3. Vickie Powers Thompson-Null

Having been blessed to be a cousin of Roy’s and knowing the kind, generous man he became, I share in the sadness of his passing. I do know that his sweet smile and glowing light will shine upon all of us from heaven. May God be with all those family and friends who are missing him at this time.

  4. I was blessed to ever meet Roy in person. I met him through his love of music, and we became friends from his Old Time music community. He was so kind, patient, loving of his family and especially concerned when his grand daughter was ill earlier. I feel so sad right now, though from knowing Roy, I don’t think that is what he’d want. I just now heard of his passing, so I will be remembering him and praying for his family and friends tomorrow at 1. I am sending my love and my prayers to his family though they don’t know me personally. May you be comforted during this time of your loss.

  5. Helen Jo & David Hurst

Words can not express how sorry we are for your loss. God will wrap his arms around you to get you & the family through this difficult time. Cherish all the memories and love you & Roy had together.
