Rose “Darlene” was born November 4, 1938 at home in Lorena to Sanford William Polk and Lydia Ling Polk.  She attended Lorena and Waco schools, and after graduating from then Waco Technical School (later University High) she attended a secretarial course at 4C college.

Darlene married “a boy from church”, Vernon G. Vaughan, Jr. on June 20, 1957, and celebrated 48 years with him until his death in 2005.  The two served at New Salem Baptist Church and the Buckner Boys Ranch before settling into their home church of over 40 years, Little Deer Creek Baptist in Lott.  She experienced life as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, as well as working in the banking industry from which she retired in 2000.  Then she took a position with the Veterans Affairs Regional Office in Waco, which was “the best job ever” working there 20 years.

Rose Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband Vernon G. Vaughan, Jr, and brother, Donald Polk.

Survivors include sons, Keith Vaughan and wife Lisa, and Kevin Vaughan and wife Melissa; granddaughter, Logan Vaughan Wilkins and husband Jason; grandsons, Kolby Vaughan and Seth Vaughan; great-grandson, Holden Wilkins; numerous step-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Erma Polk; nieces and nephew that have always been more than “in-laws” in her life as well as friends and family unnamed, but no less loved.

The family is grateful to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital and Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospice for excellent care and concern.

Memorials may be made to Crossroads Fellowship Church, 405 Estates Dr. Waco, Texas.

Place of Service: Waco Memorial Park , 6623 S. IH-35; Robinson, TX 76706
