Roberta Lynne Atkins, 54, of Waco, lost her heroic battle with cancer Wednesday, April 12, 2017.

Visitation: Monday, April 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, Waco.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, April 18, at 12:00 noon, at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mark Griffin officiating.

Burial: At Rosemound Cemetery, immediately following service.

Roberta was born July 6, 1962 in Boone, Iowa to Robert Gardner and Alma (Surfus) Meyer.  She later moved to Texas and called it home for more than forty years.  She had great pride in her 23 year career at McLennan County Sheriff’s Department where she retired as a Corporal in 2014.  Roberta was strong in her faith and her love of the Lord.  Her family finds peace in knowing that she is reunited with Him.

Roberta is preceded in death by her father, Robert Gardner; brothers, Keith and Bobby Gardner; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Survivors include her husband of twelve years, Olan James Atkins of Waco; son, Trenton Pecskovszky and wife, Heather of Belton; mother, Alma (Gardner) Meyer of Waco; sisters, Renee Presley of Florida and Rhonda Gardner of Waco; and two grandchildren and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in person at any Educator’s Credit Union location, in the Roberta Atkins Fund.

    I have known Berta for years, as we went to school together and later worked at the sheriffs dept together. I will be out of town and cannot make the service, but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with each of you. She will be missed by all who knew her and will always be thought of with love.     So sorry for your loss. Roberta was such a kind person. I’m so glad she is in heaven now where cancer can no longer touch her. I met her during my battle with breast cancer as well.   14. Alma, So sorry for your losses,no parent should have to loose their children first.It’s been a good many years since I have seen you all. I really didn’t get to know Bertie all that well,because she was so young, but I always thought she should have been a model. She was so pretty. When I watched the video , it reminded me just how pretty she really was. Take care, say hi to the girls for me. Your in my thoughts.
