Robert Johnson

Robert Johnson, 62, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at a local care facility.

Memorial Service: 10 AM Monday, May 19, 2014 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel, 5201 Steinbeck Bend Dr., Waco.

Robert was born June 9, 1951 to David Henry and Marjorie Louise (Whatley) Johnson, in Falls County, Texas.  Growing up,  he attended schools in Marlin and Reagan.  He was a member of the Red Men’s Association.  Robert was a well-known bingo caller for over forty years.  He also had a green thumb like no other and could turn a patch of dirt into a forest.  He loved to take long rides in the country and his family was blessed with many visits from him on those occasions.  He was loved by many.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Johnson; two brothers, David “Baxter” Johnson and Thomas Johnson; and three sisters, Patricia “Pat” Gray, Virginia “Vivian” Williams, and Barbara “Kay” Johnson.

He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Shillings and husband Donald of Waco; two brothers, George “Bill” Johnson and Daniel Johnson, both of Bremond; three sisters, Nancy Wynn of Bremond, Ruby Johnson of Waco, and Mary Gula and husband James of Lorena; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Hillcrest Hospice and Quality Care Nursing Home for their care for Robert.

Brings to me great sadness to hear of Robert’s passing, I know that he will be sorely missed by his family and friends. I didn’t grow up around the family but remember going to bingo one night with Aunt Margie, Robert was so loving to his mom and made her blush with his show of emotion. You could feel the love that he had for his family. I could see the love of others in the room too.
My thoughts and prayers go the family. Wish I could be there to show my support.
    Our love to you all,
    Linda and Bob

So sorry about the loss of Robert. I lived in Waco, TX from 1987-1992 and I knew Robert through a mutual friend Rodney Vanzandt. I do know that if you were going to be around Robert, you were going to be laughing. When him and Rodnella got together, it was pure FUN. Whenever he would tell someone to CALM DOWN, he would say instead CLAM DOWN. It’s been a long time since I saw you Robert, but thank you for the laughter. God bless his family and friends. I know this hurt Rodney. Rodney loved him so much.
