Robbie Jewel Walker, 78, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco.
Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Lake Shore Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco
Robbie J. Walker was born October 28, 1940 to Claud Walker, Sr. and Ruby Lee Mayes Walker in Centerville. As the oldest of eight, she showered love and affections to her siblings. This love and affection was extended throughout her life to her nieces, nephews and Waco’s community.
Robbie, aka Rob, assisted her father in the raising her siblings after the death of her mother in 1957 or 58. Her role as big sister equipped her to plan meals, sew, help with homework and provide instructions to the family. These skills were utilized her whole life as she continued to help any and all in need, whose path crossed her.
Rob enjoyed sewing and cake decorating, but her passion was cooking and BINGO, and she was well known for her TEA CAKES.
Her formal educational training was provided at Carver High School. Rob graduated in 1958. After graduation, she attended McLennan Community College. She was employed at Hillcrest Hospital and advanced to lead cook and then to supervisor. After leaving Hillcrest, she was employed at Waco Veterans’ Hospital. Robbie advanced to cook foreman at VAMC and retired in 2006 or 2007.
Rob’s house was always filled with laughter, people and delicious food in the kitchen. It was the meeting place for her son’s friends and classmates. Her love for sharing extended to any in need. Her home was open to all.
Kermit D. Ward was blessed to call Robbie Jewel Walker, mother. As a one and only child, Rob lavished him with love and equipped him for life. Her proudest moment was his graduation from Baylor University. She opened her home to Babylon “Yolanda” Crockett and Curtis Crockett and raised them along with one of her grand-daughters, Kermitra Ward.
The Golden Girls emerged in 2017; they consisted of Rob, Linda Wiley and Ms. Ollie. They were often located at various bingo games throughout Waco. Rob enjoyed those outings.
The memory of Rob will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends. She leaves her son, Kermit Ward of Waco, Yolanda Crockett of Temple and Curtis Crockett of Waco; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; sisters and brothers she leaves behind are Clarence Walker(Gloria), Quience Wright, Shirley Johnson, Barbara Foxx, Claud Walker, Jr, Donald Walker and Tammy Walker; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.

I’m going to miss my you Robbie Jewel. You were my head coach, my best friend and my confidant. Throughout our softball years we shared many special times together traveling doing what we loved to do. Watch our girls play softball. So many great memories. After softball was over and we caught up with each other I loved reminiscing over all the stories we experienced together. We talked about the same stories every time but it was like hearing it for the first time. Life kept me apart from visiting with you more often and I will always deeply regret not spending more time with you after softball. You’ve blessed myself and everyone around you with your one liners, smile & laughter. I love you Robbie and will miss you.
Kermit & KW I’m so sorry for your loss. Words can’t express what your mom & grandmother meant to all of us.
Miss Robbie was my first supervisor at Marlin VA, she taught me everything about the system, cooking, and working together as a team. I still miss those Chocolate Chip Cake, Tea Cakes and all the wonderful food the she cooked. Miss Robbie will truly be missed.
Robbie will be greatly missed. She was a delight to care for and I always enjoyed doing that! She was a very special person to me and I was special to her. You were blessed to have her as we were! I know she is at peace in heaven! We loved her.

She was our heart at the clinic,akways smiling and keeping us on our toes, she is missed very much yet we know we will see her again. Love you Rob.

I remember Robbie from the Waco VA as well as the Marlin VA, she was a very nice person. May she rest in peace and may God be with her family in their times of need.

Kermit and Kermitra, we are so sorry for your loss. Robbie was so much fun. She called it like she saw it. Watching games with her in the stands, was a treat. She loved you so much. Miss Robbie was my dialysis partner. We sat next to one another and she encouraged me every time we were there. She always had a smile, even at 6 a m. I am so sorry for your loss of a wonderful woman. Be comforted that she was a testimony to others. She is truly home for the holidays with Jesus! Much love to you all….
