Rex A. Hughes, 81, of Waco, passed away Monday, February 11, 2013 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be 10AM Friday, February 15th at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Rev. Leslie King officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8PM Thursday, February 14th at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco. Rex was born October 2, 1931 in Tucumcari, NM to Delbert and Demia Lanell (Hamilton) Hughes. He retired from IBM in 1986 after 27 years of service. Later that same year, the Hughes moved to Waco, where Rex taught at TSTC until 1992. Then in 1993, Rex started Senior Net for the elderly and taught classes for them at MCC up until he suffered a stroke. Rex was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include wife of 61 years, Corrine Hughes of Waco; children, Dolores Ann Blair of Beth Page, NY, Vicki Ryder and husband Carl of Preston, MO, Thomas Delbert Hughes of Olathe, KS, Roy E. Hughes of Austin, and Ruby Knowles and husband Dennis of Roundrock; sister, Carolyn Amend of Wichita, KS; half-brothers, Delbert Hughes of Kent, and John Hughes of Houston; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or First Presbyterian Church- Music Department.
