Condolence Messages

  1. As a child I grew up with Randy, along with Hershel, being like part of our family. They were always at our house, separated only by about 2 blocks. Although I had two brothers (Butch and Jody Sykora), Randy and Hershel were sort of like having two more. One of boys favorite past times was mud clod fights … back then there was a huge farmed pea and green bean area in the field between our houses where they would set up make shift forts out of old wood or whatever they could find to hide behind, then toss clods of hard black dirt at each other (my sister Serena and I would watch from far enough away as to not to get hit). Many a night there were dinner plates set for Randy and Hershel at our table … they even had there own drinking glass color (in those days there were no electric dishwashers in our house) so everyone had a different colored glass glass; if anyone of us kids wanted a drink (including Randy & Hershel) we had to have our glass handy.

Our family made frequent trips to the coast (Galveston and Port Aransas); first in a packed station wagon, then in early 70’s stated doing so in the a motorhome where the boys would lay on a top bunk over drivers area to watch the world and miles fly by from up high. Those were definitely the good old days … playing in the oceans waves, fishing in the Gulf (as well as Lake Waco on an old deck boat we had), and just spending time together.

Randy may now be gone, but his memory will live on forever, in the hearts and souls of all his family and friends (as he will in mine). God bless, rest in peace Randy

  2. Randy was like a son to me. He and Hershel were were always at our house. He even helped with construction of our LONG driveway, upstairs rooms, and was always ready to help with anything else we needed help with. When they were being overrun with females (Gram, Peggy, Jofay, and little sister Lorrie) they retreated to our place to have fun with my boys (Butch and Little Jody Sykora).

I remember one 4th of July we all loaded up into the station wagon and out to Lake Waco to see the fireworks. In those days they shot the fireworks off the dam. We had a pre-fireworks show in the STATIONWAGON when a lit puck got accidently dropped into a bag full of fireworks. Wow what excitement! Little Lorrie DOVE into front seat with Big Jody and me. We stopped, the boys jumped out, and so did we. Luckily no one was hurt. This just one of many memories I have with my four kids and my extra SONS.

    “Rest in Peace” …

  3. Debbie Oplie Bigham

Growning up with Randy and Hershel, we have been friends for years. I don’t know how many times Randy and Hershel, for that matter have helped with issues on cars I have had. I ran into Randy all the time at the convience store next door to his house–and he was always ready to visit. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. His crazy personality will be missed by so many.

    Love,
    The Bigham Family
