Polly J. Groppe,77, of Woodway, passed away on January 8, 2014. A graveside service will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 11, at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Scott Spence officiating. Visitation will be Friday, January 10, from 6-8 PM at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco. Polly was born November 9, 1936 to W.A. and Adelle (Almond) McKinnon in Lindale. At an early age she moved to Hubbard and then to north Texas. She graduated from Waco High School in 1954.On July 1, 1961 she married Ernest Groppe in Waco. Polly was a homemaker while the children were young. Later she was a manager at Dan’s Dairy Queen, retiring in 1980 after fifteen years of service. Polly was a longtime member of St. John United Church of Christ in Robinson. She loved her family, especially the grandchildren. She also loved sports, especially baseball and softball.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-two years, Ernest Groppe of Woodway; children, Tony Sorrentino and wife, Cookie, of China Spring, , Patricia Sorrentino, of Woodway, and Robert Groppe and wife, Sheryl, of Crawford; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Bryan Davis, Morgan and Matthew Groppe; and great grandson, Reece Dougherty.

Pallbearers will be Oliver Groppe, Wesley Groppe, Greg Groppe, Todd Groppe, Gerald Groppe and Kevin Groppe.

Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ in Robinson or the American Diabetics Association.

    We are so very sorry to read about Polly. We have not kept in touch since Mom’s been gone, but we have thought of you all so often.

    Her picture looks so much like Mrs. McKinnon, from our Brook Avenue days and past. During those days Mom and Mrs. McKinnon discovered that Ernest and Daddy were co-workers at General Tire, and also that we were somehow related, but we can not now remember how.

    The last time we saw Polly and Patricia was when Mom died. She enjoyed so much keeping in touch with Patricia.
