Phyllis Gloria Hamby, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend peacefully passed away to be with our Lord Jesus Christ, Friday, November 17th, surrounded by her loving family.

Celebration of Life Service:Tuesday November 21, 2017 @ 1PM in the Chapel at First United Methodist Church on Cobbs and Lake Air Drive.

Phyllis was born January 4, 1930 in Elkhart, IN. to the late Robert and Byrdeen Frederick. It was during her Sophomore year in high school that she met the love of her life, Robert Lee Hamby. She and Bob were married two years later, recently celebrating their 68th anniversary. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jim; two brothers, Phillip and Richard; and her sister, Judy.

Phyllis had a dedicated career as an LVN, working in Elkhart, IN, and most recently in Waco, with Dr. Stern and the Scott & White Clinic for eight years. Her years of service were reciprocated by the caring support of her health care team in her final days.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Bob Hamby; sons, Kevin Hamby and wife Cordia, and Bruce Hamby and wife Lynette; sister-in-laws, Loretta Hamby and Theresa Frederick; niece, Vickey Moore; 8 grandchildren, Heidi, Monica, Jason (Terri), Jonathan, Jared (Lizzy), Trish, Jeremiah and Rebekah (David); five great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous other family and friends.

  1. I am so fortunate to know and be loved by you Bob and Phyllis for 50 years now. I may have never known Jesus if it weren’t for you. Through you both I learned what’s good on earth also. Heaven is home for her now and I am absolutely sure it’s a better place because of her being there… I can hear her giggle now.
